Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Director, Population and Social Statistics, the job holder will be responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, and monitoring activities in the Social Statistics Division.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Designing and implementing survey programmes in the areas of Education, Health, Gender and Governance, Peace and Security Statistics;
  2. Coordinating the design, development and review of administrative data collection instruments in areas of Education, Health, Gender and Governance, Peace and Security Statistics ;
  3. Coordinating the collection, compilation and analysis of Education Statistics; Health Statistics; of Gender Statistics; and Governance, Peace and Security Statistics; Developing concept papers and proposals for the overall technical development of Social Statistics
  4. Coordinating the provision of indicators for monitoring social sector performance;
  5. Coordinating the provision of Social Statistics and write-ups for Annual Economic Survey, National and County Statistical Abstract and other statistical reports;
  6. Establishing, maintaining and deploying appropriate systems for measuring and evaluating data quality of Social Statistics;
  7. Monitoring and assessing quality of Statistics produced by data producers;
  8. Monitoring statistical trends of national, regional and international Social Statistics;
  9. Developing, maintaining and updating Social Statistics databases;
  10. Producing and providing Social Statistics relating to international and regional agencies that Kenya is party to; and data subscribers/users;
  11. Writing and submitting technical reports on specific subject(s);
  12. Ensuring that statistical standards and methods are maintained;
  13. Managing and developing staff within the Division;
  14. Reporting on the performance of the Division;
  15. Any other duty as may be assigned by the Director, Population and Social Statistics from time to time.

Requirements for Appointment:

  • Must have served in the grade of Manager, Statistics or equivalent position for a minimum period of three (3) years
  • Must have a Bachelor Degree in any of the following disciplines: – Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or any other related qualifications from a recognized institution;
  • Must have a Master Degree in any of the following disciplines: – Statistics; Economics, Mathematics or any other related qualifications from a recognized institution;
  • Must have a Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Program lasting not less than six (6) weeks or any other related qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Must be adept with appropriate computer skills;
  • Must have analytical, financial and human resource management skills;Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment;
  • Must meet the requirements of chapter six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and submit the following documents: –

Technical Works Team Leader Plumber at British High Commission Nairobi

The British High Commission in Nairobi is the diplomatic mission of the United Kingdom

Main purpose of job:

Responsible for scheduling and execution of the plumbing works across the British High Commission Estates. To safely perform, Plumbing & Water Systems: Planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding, design, construction and inspection & test to; plant, equipment & installations across the British High Commission estate in and around Nairobi in accordance with Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) guidance.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

Plumbing Works

  • Carry out planned maintenance activities, projects, refurbishments and react to Plumbing & Water Systems breakdowns or faults in a timely, professional & customer focused manner.
  • Execute repairs and works safely and in accordance with the quality standards of the FCO, industry best practice, British standards and Kenyan regulations & requirements where applicable to domestic / housing Plumbing & Water Systems and light industrial / commercial plant and equipment.
  • Take ownership of Plumbing & Water Systems projects, repairs and renewals, producing technical reports, accurate time frames for completion of works, outlining all resources required, start date, end date, project milestones and dependencies.
  • Plan for Plumbing & Water Systems maintenance methods including design, installation, inspection & test.
  • Actively contribute to safe working practices and ensure all work is undertaken safely by self and others
  • Identify materials required and create work package(s) for refurbishment, improvement, and renewal to ensure the Plumbing & Water Systems installation meets the compliance standards of the FCO, Kenyan regulations & requirements where applicable and any other relevant standard(s).
  • Produce comprehensive list of plumbing materials to be used in the estate.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement in all areas of work to achieve best value for money, safety compliance and standards of build.
  • Routine maintenance, design for small projects, construction, test & inspection, undertaking full building Plumbing & Water Systems renewals (including Potable, Grey & Foul / Sewerage), fault finding, repairs to installations, fitting accessories, modification, repairs and replacement of Plumbing & Water System components in commercial buildings and special locations (swimming pools etc.) Working at height and outside work may be required on occasion including on high risk plant (e.g. Sewerage Plant).

Scheduling

  • Setting a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme with the plumbing team and execute annual maintenance to ensure the upkeep of the British High Commission estate
  • Provide clear guidance and demonstrate best practice in work to the other plumbers
  • First point of contact for complaint resolution and updating with the customer through the Corporate Services Helpdesk (CSHelpdesk) for Plumbing Requests
  • Coordinate with the TWG Admin Officer on job allocations to the Plumbing Team

Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct market research on new products and techiniques for plumbing team
  • Work with suppliers on product quality and usage to ensure correct application is practiced in the teams work

Line Management:

  • Set direction for the team and plan out work assignments to team members
  • Support team members in skill development
  • Coordinate monthly team and individual meetings to track progress against set objectives
  • Directly line manage 5 Plumbers

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Plumbing & Water Systems; Fault finding, construction & installation methods (Commercial & Domestic), Risk assessment, creating Method Statements
  • Can demonstrate over Six years of hands on Plumbing & Water Systems work experience
  • Experience in leading a team (highly desirable)
  • IT / Computer literate
  • Holder of Valid Driving Licence
  • Proficient in English

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Apprentice trained Plumber / Technician
  • Able to Multi-Skill

The Chief, Digital Centre of Excellence provides leadership in ICTD’s digital transformation agenda with field facing Technology for Development (T4D) solutions at global level. In addition to leading and managing the Centre of Excellence team, the Chief works closely with regions, headquarter divisions, UN agencies and external partners, facilitating demand prioritization, overseeing T4D product families, identifying partnerships, and fostering and inspiring innovation.

As part of the ICTD Division, the role works closely with ICTD management in Valencia and New York and plays a key role in the implementation of the digital strategy, reinforcement of technology evolution and strengthening relations with programmes, regional cohesion and alignment.

This position reports to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) – Director of ICTD. This role directly supervises one international staff member at the P-4 level and is second reporting officer to 2 international staff members as the P-3 level. It is expected that at least 5 additional international positions will be added as the COE grows in coming years.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership and manage the Digital COE teams that are onsite and remote
  2. Manage the Digital Centre of Excellence by overseeing and supervising the key pillars of the global T4D function.
  3. Through the authority of the CIO’s office, ensure that the global Digital COE plays a central role in the development and implementation of T4D and digital innovation strategies that are supporting the programmes.
  4. Ensure the COE workplans, activities, key assignments, projects and tasks are aligned with global ICTD portfolio.
  5. Support capacity building of COE teams with trainings, workshops and stretch assignments.
  6. Lead the resource mobilization to support the COE and associated programmes through fundraising, partnerships and advocacy
  7. Manage the budget and resource plan of the Digital COE.
  8. Seek and promote new partnerships and resource mobilization for T4D and digital innovation, working within UNICEF teams and divisions to identify gaps and broker resource mobilization agreements to meet those needs.
  9. Expand UNICEF’s network of key interlocutors.
  10. Contribute to communications and advocacy for the digital strategy.
  11. Work closely with UNICEF’s colleagues to ensure advocacy and outreach.
  12. Facilitate the implementation of the UNICEF’s digital (T4D) programme strategy through business relationship management, good governance, partnerships, and compliance
  13. Build and manage a relationship for convergence and partnering across the organization, including strategic planning with business owners vis a vis digital programmes.
  14. Under the direction of the ICTD director, play a central role in the Field Results and Innovation cone on digital investments for programmes together with Supply Division, Office of Innovation and other divisions including Programmed Division and Private Fundraising and Partnerships.
    1. Provide leadership, coordination and engagement with stakeholders for investment in digital public goods supporting UNICEF programmes.
    2. Support – as interface – regional offices and country offices to scale digital T4D programmes including prioritization, testing and implementation of global solutions
    3. Oversee and facilitate support to the global T4D products and solutions through their lifecycle on behalf of stakeholders using established governance mechanisms and engagement with partners.
    4. Foster digital innovation through emerging technologies in country programmes together with Innovation Hubs of UNICEF, UN agencies and Partners
    5. Lead efforts on identifying emerging technologies that would solve the identified problems or accelerate programmatic results.
    6. Support regional offices in guiding country offices to implement and operationalize digital innovation at scale by sharing knowledge and best practices.
    7. Network with technology partners, private sectors, UN Innovation Labs and Academia.

Academic Degrees Required:

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s Degree or higher) in International Development, International Relations, Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology management, or a relevant technical field. A first University Degree (Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent) in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Professional Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years professional experience in information technology management, business operations, or field support in leveraging technology to improve programme results in a large international organization is required, including:
  • 7 years of work experience at field level (regional or country) providing support to the design and implementation of programme facing technologies (T4D)
  • 5 years of work experience directly engaging national and sub-national government partners, including associated ministries of ICT, Health, Education etc.
  • Proven experience creating partnerships and mobilizing resources

Desirable:

  1. Experience in a UN organization is an asset.
  2. Leadership in the development of ICT and T4D strategic plans, governance, policies and system architecture is desirable.
  3. Proven project and programme management skills with excellent knowledge of change management are desirable.
  4. Broad understanding of business principles and processes, and the ability to quickly assimilate UN/UNICEF specific processes and systems are desirable.
  5. Knowledge and understanding of humanitarian and development practices with an area of technical expertise is an asset.

Language requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required with advanced written and oral proficiency. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
