JRS is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate for the position of Speech and language Therapist (SALT).As part of the JRS Inclusive Education Department in Kakuma, the Speech and Language Therapy is part of a Multidisciplinary Therapy Team at the JRS Inclusive Education centres. Duties include the delivery of therapy intervention ensuring that the speech, language and communication programmes are integral to the pupils’ educational and developmental programme.

Main Duties And Responsibilities Clinical

  • Responsible for delivery of specialist speech and language therapy services at JRS inclusive Education centres including assessment, diagnosis and therapy .
  • To provide specialist intervention demonstrating clinical effectiveness by the use of evidence based practice and outcome measures while being able to adapt practices to meet individual pupils’ need.
  • To provide specialist therapy services utilizing a variety of service delivery models including individual, joint, multidisciplinary, group and teacher directed sessions.
  • To use specialist knowledge of standardized assessment and other assessment tools in combination with advanced reasoning skills to record baseline measures and/or differential diagnoses.
  • Management of a highly complex and demanding caseload of children with physical disabilities, severe or profound learning difficulties and complex needs
  • To carry out assessment of individual children within the Inclusive Education program in relation to communication need using assessment tools as required by the individual, making use of senior support as required.
  • To develop and implement speech and language programmes for individual and groups using expertise to create innovative and effective ways of working where appropriate to maximise individual students’ potential.
  • To provide speech and language targets for integration into the educational curriculum as part of each students’ IEP in consultation with parents, teachers and other multidisciplinary staff.
  • To plan implement and evaluate joint sessions with members of the multidisciplinary team, incorporating speech and language therapy targets.
  • To attend and participate in regular multidisciplinary team and symbols meetings.
  • To regularly monitor and review the children’s ongoing communication needs.
  • To liaise closely with all staff to support implementation of appropriate communication strategies on a daily basis.
  • Top actively support other staff members when they identify the communication needs of students by brainstorming, supporting and implementing possible solutions.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES

  • To deliver all aspects of speech and language therapy intervention according to relevant evident based practices.
  • To provide reports to contribute to the students’ annual reviews.
  • To maintain records of invention according to professional standards
  • To maintain professional status and competence at a specialist level, taking responsibility for keeping own knowledge and skills up to date by engaging in continuing professional development.
  • Develop training programmes e.g. Picture Communication Exchange System, Eye Gaze and take responsibility to contribute to the training of others including staff and parents.
  • To manage the emotional consequences of working with children with physical disabilities and complex needs and be aware of the needs, demands and pressures on their families.
  • To have knowledge of and work within the framework of relevant procedures including Safeguarding/Child Protection etc.
  • To demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to professional and clinical guidelines. To represent the JRS at multi agency meetings where appropriate

EDUCATIONAL DUTIES

  • To contribute to planning and delivering of training (both formal and informal) to parents, teachers and other school staff in speech, language and communication disorders related to children with physical and complex disabilities.
  • To participate in the induction of new staff members to the Inclusive Education department.
  • To work closely with the teaching team and other therapists to agree on and implement the use of new symbols and approaches in the school and to construct/adapt appropriate communication resources for various curriculum and play activities during the day.
  • Assessment, management and provision of individual children’s communication aids/mounting systems/PODD books/vocabulary including determining appropriateness of new equipment/symbols and resources.
  • To agree with the therapy team and ensure the consistency of symbols used throughout the school and to advise staff on symbols and resources.

RESEARCH DUTIES

  • To maintain an up to date knowledge of new techniques and development within the field of speech and language development and appraise and implement new interventions as propriate.
  • To engage in reporting on clinical practice, evidence based practice and research in order to improve services to pupils.
  • To participate in research projects and to collect and provide research data as appropriate

Organisational Duties

  • To organise own caseload balancing case management, team responsibilities and time allocation towards school, professional and personal objectives.
  • To be flexible to the demands of the environment including unpredictable events, deadlines and frequent interruptions.
  • To monitor own resource levels and requirements in own areas and source and request new equipment and resources as appropriate.
  • To attend and participate in meetings including Annual Reviews, school, multidisciplinary, staff and SLT.
  • To attend any mandatory training and induction courses as requested by the Inclusive Education coordinator .
  • To contribute to developing new policies for the school.
  • To be responsible for security, care and maintenance of SLT equipment including switches, toys, IT and communication aids and reporting maintenance issues efficiently and quickly.

Professional Qualification

  • Sc. or Master’s degree in Speech Therapy or Speech-language Pathology
  • Relevant license and certification
  • Experience with certain disorders and age groups may be required
  • Sound understanding of speech-related disorders and treatments.
  • Familiarity with basic computer software.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Possession of valid annual practicing license.
  • Good communication skills, honest, good interpersonal skills.Skills and competencies:

  • Working experience in rehabilitation/inclusion of children with disabilities is an added-advantage.
  • Proficiency in English and Kiswahili language both written and spoken.

JRS Kenya is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate for the position of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Officer. Under the support of Country Programme Officer, the MEAL Officer will contribute in designing, developing and implementing effective M&E and accountability systems and processes with an aim of improving programme quality. MEAL Officer will raise initiatives among all departments to produce capacity building and strengthening sessions for staff and partners.

Responsibilities of the Job

  • Support programs planning processes, particularly on intervention and contribute to ensuring adherence to international quality standards,
  • Support the development of logical frameworks and MEAL plans in project proposals, in consultation with the Country Programme Officer,
  • Support MEAL and project staff in timely development and implementation of monitoring framework and tools,
  • In collaboration with the Country Programme Officer, lead field-level assessments, including baseline, mid-term, end-line and post-distribution monitoring surveys.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a directly related field, such as operations research, quantitative analysis or any other filed with work experience in a directly related field will be considered in lieu of graduate degree.
  • Proven knowledge of computerized systems, high degree of computer literacy and word processing & spreadsheet /excel skills
  • At least 2 years working year of relevant work experience in refugee set up.
  • Previous experience working in humanitarian or and development at least 1 year.
  • Previous experience in facilitating remote capacity building and strengthening sessions is preferred.
  • Experience with statistical packages such as SPSS or any other analytical software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Core humanitarian standards and codes, including SPHERE is preferred.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and problem solving skills.
  • Familiarity with the issues of urban and village water systems and networks,
  • Proven understanding of Do No Harm principles and methodology with applied experience implementing projects with/for women and girls.

JRS Kenya is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate for the position of Occupational Therapist. As part of the JRS Inclusive Education Department in Kakuma, this position will provide rehabilitation support for children with disabilities in the inclusive education programs in Kakuma refugee camp. Specifically, JRS is aiming at reinforcing the interventions to children with intellectual and multiple disabilities in Kakuma and Kalobeyei camps. Thus, the Occupational Therapist will lead the process in development, implementation, and coordination of the occupational therapy Services at the five JRS inclusive education centres and in the community. Screening/Assessment, evaluation, referrals, educational program and transition planning, therapeutic intervention, and discharge planning for Learners identified with or suspected of having disabilities that interfere with their ability to perform daily life activities or participate in necessary or desired occupations.

The incumbent will report to Inclusive Education Coordinator and in collaboration with other Inclusive Education staff.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Identification, evaluation and planning:

  • Assessing and formulating patient treatment plan for the children with disabilities.
  • To develop individualized Education programming (IEP) through professional judgement and clinical knowledge based on occupational performance deficits in the areas of personal care, Learners role, interaction skills, process skills, play, community integration/work, and communication.
  • Collaborates with other professionals to ensure team understanding of learner’s occupational performance strengths and needs, through evaluation, educational program planning, and service delivery.
  • Evaluates the learner’s ability and formulates the learner’s occupational profile through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews.
  • Synthesizes evaluation results into a comprehensive written report which reflects strengths and barriers to learner’s participation in the educational environment; directs program development; and guides evidence-based intervention.
  • Develops occupationally based intervention plans based on learners needs and evaluation results.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals.
  • Coordinates with the IEP team for the purpose of determining appropriate treatments, etc. to meet the needs of specific learners and attends IEP Team Meetings.

Service delivery:

  • Conducts Assessment, referrals, school placements for Children with disabilities
  • Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school environment.
  • Consults with the centre-based team to achieve learner’s outcomes.
  • Adapts and modifies the environment including assistive technology and training teachers & parents to meet individual needs and to help learners’ function as independently as possible.
  • Educates learners, educational personnel, and family to facilitate skills in areas of occupation as well as health maintenance and safety.
  • Monitors and reassess the effects of occupational therapy intervention and the need to continue, modify, or discontinue intervention
  • Documents occupational therapy services to ensure accountability of service provision

Program Administration and Management

  • Prioritizes and schedules work tasks independently.
  • Manages inventory of therapeutic equipment and assessments, and project needs for budget planning.
  • Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, guidelines, and school system policy.
  • Provides mentorship/coaching and supervision of Assistant Occupational Therapist in the five JRS Inclusive Centres
  • Adheres to Government regulation, Kenya Occupational Therapy Association and Occupational Therapy Council of Kenya regulation and policies that relates to occupational therapy practice.
  • Reviews occupational therapy services for quality improvement and makes changes as needed to ensure quality of services.

Monitoring, Evaluation reporting and Learning

  • Monitors, and collaborates with Inclusive educational personnel, community structures, parents, and learners to increase understanding of the leaner’s occupational performance.
  • Provides continuing education and in-services for inclusive educational personnel, parents, and community-based service providers.
  • Provides community-based education and supervision for community teachers and AOT
  • Works collaboratively in a professional learning in addressing the needs of learners, developing effective practices and implementing best practices.

The Somali Dialogue Platform (the ‘Platform’) is a multi-year programme funded by the FCDO, USAID, BUILD and DANIDA. The Somali Dialogue Platform provides a neutral space for political dialogue on contentious issues in Somalia’s political settlement, such as designing and implementing election systems and clarifying the federal settlement. The overall goal of the Platform is to ensure a ‘high-level and sufficiently inclusive range of political stakeholders to regularly and constructively negotiate and seek solutions on contentious political settlement issues in trusted, Somali-owned dialogue spaces’.

The Rift Valley Institute is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic person to manage the Platform’s political analysis and research work. The Research Lead has overall responsibility for delivery of the programme’s research and analysis components, including conducting regular political analysis and managing multi-stakeholder social science research projects, to support, shape and inform the programme’s political engagement work. The Research Lead will work closely with the Team Leader and the Platform’s Engagement Lead to design relevant research and analytical activities and product that maximize impact. S/he will collaborate with research partners and network of experts to deliver research that will achieve the overall objective of facilitating a stronger political settlement in Somalia.

Description of Duties

Lead the Platform’s research and analysis work

  • Lead the conceptualisation, planning and implementation of the Platform’s research and analysis activities. Work closely with the Platform representatives, staff, Somali partners and policy makers to ensure the appropriate design of research activities and outputs
  • Ensure the Platform’s research is based on robust design and methodologies, and is relevant and responsive to the needs of stakeholders in political dialogues.
  • Establish and oversee rigorous systems for data collection, management and analysis
  • Undertake primary research when appropriate (literature reviews, key informant interviews) and analysis of primary data
  • Manage and oversee the production of research outputs and publications, with support from RVI’s publications team.
  • Manage the Platform’s stakeholder mapping process
  • Maintain a consistent database of relevant research and political analysis to inform the Platform’s own research and ensure triangulation with existing evidence
  • Plan and implement dissemination and uptake strategies for research findings and analytical insights through dissemination in various formats (print, online publishing, social media) and for presentations in donor briefings, policy advisory workshops and engagement events.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with Somali organisations from whom the Platform can commission high-quality research outputs
  • Identify and manage consultants that can support the Platform’s research activities.

Programme management

  • Support the collection of evidence to promote programme learning and to measure and communicate the impact of research activities
  • Lead on financial and budget management for the Platform’s research activities ensuring they are within budget and providing value-for-money
  • Monitor and support mitigations of risks arising from the political context and the Platform’s engagement work
  • Manage, and support RVI staff and consultants working on research activities
  • Support and mentor junior researchers working on the Platform

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Masters degree in a relevant field of study.
  • A minimum of five years experience in leading, designing and implementing social science and political research projects in fragile environments, including conducting field research, commissioning research, managing research teams and the production of research outputs.
  • Demonstrable commitment to the Platform’s core vision and principles
  • Track record of delivering policy-relevant research to a range of high-level audiences (UN, government, institutional donors)
  • Demonstrable ability to implement and innovate research methodologies and data analysis (including mixed methods), and stakeholder mapping processes
  • Experience in complex data management processes for large qualitative research projects
  • Excellent political analysis skills and understanding of current and historical political dynamics in Somalia
  • Thematic expertise and knowledge in the field of peacebuilding, democratisation, and state-building

Summary

The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a part time Content Campaign Coordinator to join our team, reporting to the Senior Programs Strategist. As the Content Campaign Coordinator, you will be responsible for supporting our ongoing community engagement efforts for #1lib1ref and #WikiForHumanRights. In this role, you will coordinate multidisciplinary capacities across the organization to increase the impact and skills of existing campaign organizers, and support WMF strategic initiatives that involve content campaigns. Our aspiration is that any organizer focused on a knowledge gap can nimbly invite interested audiences to effectively contribute content through online and offline activities. We work on this through a combination of hands-on experimental projects, like #1lib1ref and #WikiForHumanRights, and advising existing community initiatives.

During the first half of 2021, we need support for coordinating two types of activities:

  • Support for developing editing challenges for experienced editors related to human rights and sustainability topics as part of our ongoing #WikiForHumanRights partnership with UN Human Rights
  • Consultation with and support for global Wikimedia communities who want to newly participate in the #1lib1ref May campaign in new contexts, especially in South and Southeast Asia

You are responsible for:

  • Collaborate with the Content Campaigns program (situated within the Community Programs team in the Product department) to design audience-based calls to action
  • Write documentation and help implement and monitor participation in editing activities
  • Connect interested organizers with resources, documentation, partnerships or advisory support for implementing locally relevant activities as part of the #1lib1ref and #WikiForHumanRights content drives.
  • Communicate with campaign participants and on-wiki communities about the campaigns, and help triage any challenges that arise.
  • Support evaluation of the campaigns.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience successfully organizing online activities in Wikimedia communities
  • Knowledge about effective tactics for organizing content drives, editathons or other campaign tactics in the Wikimedia movement.
  • Experience communicating in English to the international Wikimedia community and publishing it in Wikimedia community channels, such as Wikimedia mailing lists, Meta Wiki, Telegram or Facebook.
  • Experience evaluating the impact of content-focused activities in the Wikimedia movement through organizing tools like the Programs and Events Dashboard, Fountain or Hashtags tool.

Qualities that are important to us:

  • A passion for and belief in free and open knowledge, and a willingness to get involved in the complex, decentralized process of creating it.
  • Sensitivity to working with multicultural, multilingual audiences

Additionally, we’d love it if you have:

  • Experience professionally communicating in languages other than English
  • A network of collaborators in the Wikimedia movement from Global South communities — for #1lib1ref coordination we prefer candidates with experience coordinating Wikimedia communities in South or Southeast Asia
  • Experience doing outreach with audiences beyond the existing community in the Wikimedia movement (for ex. Education, GLAM or Library outreach)
  • Knowledge or experience working with topics such as human rights, libraries or broader international topics for impact, i.e. the Sustainable Development Goals.

Responsibilities

The purpose of the position is to oversee results-based management of programmes in the region, manage Norwegian Red Cross contribution to Red Cross Movement’s (RCM) regional preparedness and response systems and deputize for the Regional Representative.

  • Closely monitors relevant risks in the region and provides updated analysis and recommendations to the Regional Representative and Disaster Risk Management Unit at National Office (HQ) accordingly
  • Lead the assessment of Emergency Appeals in the region and provides recommendation to the Regional Representative on support to emergency operations
  • Coordinate that Norwegian Red Cross funded initiatives in the region and improve regional disaster preparedness and response operations in, order to achieve desired results
  • Ensure that Norwegian Red Cross proactively contributes to timely and complementary RCM preparedness and response to acute disasters in the region
  • Engage and motivate the professional development of regional technical delegates and Results Management Officer and follow up on yearly plans
  • Oversee and ensure that technical delegates in the region work with other technical personnel globally to contribute to optimal use of technical resources across regions in international activities
  • Ensures that all regional and country office staff have access to and can make use of technical resources
  • Contribute to human resources planning for technical competencies in the region

Mission Specific Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate (at regional level) the institutional efforts related to Community Based Surveillance (CBS) in close coordination with the national office and established plans
  • Leads on establishing an effective institutional system at regional level to ensure timely identification of arising emergencies, and guides Norwegian Red Cross’ engagement in accordance with established criteria

Required Education And Experience

  • Higher education at master level within relevant field
  • Experience from implementing humanitarian projects at field level
  • Advanced knowledge of disaster preparedness and response mechanisms
  • Leadership experience from an international organization within the humanitarian field
  • Experience and practical knowledge of results-based management
  • Track record of emergency response deployments is an asset
  • Technical expertise in health, WASH or protection is desirable
  • Fluency in English is required. Working proficiency of regional languages is an asset

Project Description

Abt Associates, a major American business and government research, technical assistance, and consulting company, manages the USAID-funded Vector Control Task Order 1. Task Order 1 will support the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) and USAID to plan and implement an integrated vector control approach with the overall goal of reducing the burden of malaria. Abt has implemented indoor residual spraying (IRS) for PMI since 2011, delivering high-quality IRS programs and gathering the most comprehensive vector control entomological data in the world. Under this contract, Abt will expand entomological monitoring to guide programs focused on insecticide-treated mosquito nets and IRS and continue to assist PMI in reducing the burden of malaria through IRS and capacity building in 22 African countries where malaria is endemic. Abt also will continue to support PMI in IRS monitoring and evaluation, as well as environmental compliance.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Kenya Chief of Party and with “dotted line” reporting to the PMI VectorLink Project’s UK-based Entomology Advisor, the Entomology Technical Manager provides leadership and management oversight of all of the project’s entomological surveillance activities in Kenya, in collaboration with the Division of National Malaria Program (NMCP), coordinate and oversee the project’s key entomological monitoring activities for IRS plus ITN Durability Monitoring and will guide key project and country-level IRS decisions based on data analysis and interpretation.

Key Roles And Responsibilities

  • Leads the development of an entomological monitoring plan, in collaboration with national counterparts at the DNMP or designated research institution
  • Reviews the content of communications materials for technical accuracy
  • Manages field-based entomology teams and molecular laboratory analysis of mosquito samples to ensure monthly data collection, data quality and control
  • Ensures the transfer of technical skills to local institutions
  • Responsible for producing high quality entomological reports, including spray quality reports
  • Coordinate the implementation of the following set of entomological field activities:
    • The establishment of sentinel sites in each target district
    • Monthly pyrethrum spray catch, CDC light trap and window exit trap collections to monitor indoor resting and host-seeking vector populations
    • Wall bioassays after every spray cycle to evaluate the quality of spraying
    • Wall bioassays monthly in selected districts to evaluate the residual efficacy of insecticide
    • Vector susceptibility studies annually for all currently used and candidate insecticides in order to monitor resistance status and resistance mechanisms
  • Provide guidance and support to a focal counterpart from the MOH/DNMP or research institution for the supervision of district-level field teams of entomological technicians or vector control officers who perform mosquito collections and tests
  • Ensure that the field teams follow all WHO approved guidelines, protocols, and techniques for mosquito collections and tests
  • Ensure that all data from all collection activities are recorded on data entry forms, perform mosquito identification, and undertake data analysis and prepare monitoring reports
  • Implement capacity-building efforts to increase and expand the skills of local counterparts and field team technicians
  • Ensure that ITN durability monitoring studies are done according to WHO protocols and to prepare high quality reports of these studies
  • Develop capacity of community-based entomological collectors while working closely with county entomology staff.
  • Establish a new molecular laboratory for entomological analysis (PCR and ELISA) with a partner institution.
  • Work closely with DNMP and consultants to oversee and manage the preparation of updated national guideline documents such as Insecticide Resistance Management, Integrated Vector Management documents and Vector Surveillance documents
  • Prepare manuscripts using project entomology data for publication in peer-reviewed journals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree (minimum),or a PhD (desirable) in Entomology
  • Minimum six (6) years of relevant professional work experience with significant amounts of experience directly in Vector Control
  • Experience conducting ITN durability monitoring studies
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a minimum of direction and supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to work both as a member of a team and as a team leader, with the ability to accept the inputs of other team members
  • Strong management and planning skills of project tasks and budgets
  • Demonstrates leadership and team work and produces high quality work in a timely, cost effective manner and has excellent writing skills
  • Should have some previous experience conducting PCR for mosquito species identification, detection of resistance mechanisms and sporozoite ELISA.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal communication and computer skills
  • Experience with USAID and donor projects is highly desirable
  • English language fluency

Minimum Qualifications

  • (6+) years of experience and a master degree OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
