As part of the Database team, you will be primarily responsible for the performance, integrity and security of DTONE databases. Your role will include planning, designing, developing, deploying and troubleshooting issues on DTONE databases.

Here are some of the things you will get up to:

  • Monitoring database user access and maintaining database security, integrity and availability
  • Database design, development, testing, modification and deployment
  • Installing and configuring database engines
  • Monitoring and managing database server resources
  • Managing and controlling database access, security and integrity
  • Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary
  • Managing and testing back-up and recovery plans ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly

This Is What We Really Need

  • At least 2 years PostgreSQL Database Administration experience with good knowledge of PostgreSQL administration tools, configurations and version control
  • 2 – 4 years IT operation with strong understanding of database structures, principles, and practices
  • Proficiency in Linux operating systems and SQL querying rules, standards and practices
  • Knowledge of MySQL and Oracle database engines
  • BSc Degree in Computer Science, or Information Technology related field required.

Finance Intern at Ipas

To support the Finance department in ensuring that financial and accounting operations are in strict compliance with IPAS AA policies and procedures and specific donor rules and regulations. Also strive to ensure efficient and accountable use of donor funds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with verification of documentation that support invoice payments, MPESA reimbursements and advance liquidations for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with processing of Participants payments via MPESA reimbursements from time to time.
  • Weekly scanning for electronic filling and Physical filling of all finance documents.
  • Any other assigned duties
  • Assist in reconciling weekly ledger accounts and donor categories on excel.
  • Assist in Monthly vendor reconciliations to ensure timely closure of POs in the system.

Project Manager at Akvo

Akvo is looking for a project manager to support us in the management of our planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning (PMEL) projects in East Africa and to expand our partner network throughout Africa.

Profile

You will manage PMEL projects for  Akvo across Africa, focusing mainly in the agriculture sector in East Africa.

Your role will be to support our partners in the region with innovative data solutions that help monitor the progress of agriculture and WASH programmes. You are proactive, responsible and able to maintain good working relationships in a diverse team while understanding the importance of cultural nuances.

This position is based in the Akvo Kenya office in Nairobi, and you will be reporting to the East Africa hub manager who is also based in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

Project management: 

  • Initiate, manage and monitor Akvo projects and ensure all Akvo contractual obligations towards our partners are met.
  • Ensure that high quality financial and narrative reports are delivered and that all project deliverables are met.
  • Represent Akvo in partnership meetings and maintain good partner relationships.

Technical advice and consultancy:

  • Understand our partners’ M&E needs and translate these needs into innovative PMEL data solutions.
  • Monitor feedback loops from partners to Akvo’s product and services teams.

Training: 

  • Coordinate logistics, organise and facilitate Akvo training sessions and provide support.

Business Development:

  • Develop, write, submit and negotiate high quality project proposals.
  • Follow up on partnership leads in a timely manner.

Requirements and competencies 

  • Three to five years of work experience, preferably in the international development sector or data-driven consultancy.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in project management.
  • Experience with PMEL, for example with setting up Theory of Change workshops, developing indicator frameworks for a programme, M&E reporting and application of electronic PMEL solutions.
  • Familiarity with stakeholder management in an international and culturally diverse environment.
  • Knowledge of the agriculture sector is preferred.
  • Flexible self-starter with creative and analytical problem solving skills.
  • A team player with good networking skills.
  • Excellent command of the English language in both writing and speaking (including proposal writing).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google suites.

Reporting to the Director of Haematology-Oncology, the Oncology Social Worker will enhance, expand and implement a comprehensive counselling/social work/palliative care/ survivorship/services for oncology patients both in the out-patient and in-patient setting incorporating a multi-disciplinary holistic approach to patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Incorporate the continuum of counselling, social service support, palliative care and survivorship as an integral component of the clinical management of oncology patients
  • Support and augment existing institutional services for eligible oncology patients in the out-patient setting
  • Assist and support the growth and development of counselling, social work, palliative care and survivorship services and relevant policies within the hospital.
  • Contribute to the development of an academic program in oncology social services/ counselling/survivorship/palliative care
  • To be part of a multi-disciplinary team in the care of the patient with cancer
  • Assist patients/families to adjust to the diagnosis of cancer and impact it may have on all aspects of life beginning from the time of diagnosis, out-patient visits and in-patient stay
  • Facilitate decision making on behalf of patients and families where appropriate.
  • Promote communication and understanding of post-hospital care among patient, family, and health care team.
  • Ensure timely availability of required support services in the process of treating patients, particularly when referred to other specialists.
  • Liaise with other consultants on handling specialized cases in provision of patients’ health care.
  • Organize and coordinate support groups/counselling for oncology patients/their families to assist them come to terms with the diagnoses, adjustment to possible role changes, understanding their role in dealing with, and supporting the patient.
  • Refer patient, client, or family to community resources to assist in recovery and rehabilitation from emotional or physical disabilities.
  • Contribute to the assessment of financial/socio-economic status of patients with financial challenges
  • To be involved in the delivery and development of the Grief, loss and Bereavement Services.
  • Be the key non-physician contact to the patient as he/she faces life with cancer, both in the setting of no evidence of disease or stable disease.
  • Work with the clinical specialists to create a supportive environment that promotes quality of life of the patient and optimizes management of symptoms of illness.
  • Provide the holistic, emotional and psycho-social support for patients going through end of life.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants should have BA in Social Work with specialization in Medical Social Work.
    MA Public Health/Social Work will be an added advantage.
  • S/he should have minimum 3 years’ experience with at least 1 years in medical social work and a member to relevant professional associations.
  • The successful candidate should be proactive, analytical and detail-oriented.
  • S/he should be able to prioritize, meet strict deadlines, and have excellent organizational and communication skills.
