Security & Threat Monitoring Specialist at Kenya Commercial Bank Limited

Kenya Commercial Bank Limited is registered as a non-operating holding company which started operations as a licensed banking institution with effect from January 1, 2016. The holding company oversees KCB Kenya – incorporated with effect from January 1, 2016 – and all KCB’s regional units in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia and South Sudan.

The Security & Threat Monitoring Specialist will be responsible for monitoring and analysing the organisation’s security posture while supporting Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and other security monitoring systems for log management, threat & security monitoring and analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform accurate and precise real-time analysis and correlation of logs/alerts from a multitude of log sources devices with a focus on the determination of whether the events constitute security incidents
  • Research on and provide technical security expertise on continuous persistent threats affecting the banking industry from various threat feeds and Threat Intelligence Platforms. Updates will be reported to Senior Management
  • Responsible for the creation of procedures, run books, high-level/low-level documentation, implementation of processes and development of staff for managing, configuring and maintaining SIEM and its components within the organization. This will include improvement of the current state of the SIEM/SOC and implementation of a roadmap to achieve SIEM maturity
  • Provide technical security related support to projects through the successful implementation in a bid to ensure that security logging and incident response is inbuilt into the applications as opposed to the more expensive process of adding these security features post a breach or on a system that is already in production.
  • Configuring, tuning, implementing and deploying security system monitoring tools
  • Implementing security improvements by assessing current situation; evaluating trends and anticipating requirements
  • Appropriately and practically defend the information enterprise in accordance with established policies, procedures, guidelines and practices
  • Monitor internal and external threats; examine logs, events, and alerts generated by multiple platforms for anomalous activity, evidence of security incidents, and other error conditions that may constitute a breach in security or a degradation of integrity or confidentiality of KCB information technology systems and information assets. This will include DDOS, Insider Threat, Network, Endpoint, Email, Database and Brand security monitoring
  • Continuously update the IT security monitoring and assessment as required. Stays current on malware trends, especially in the financial industry and adjusts the assessment accordingly to reflect the latest trends. Continually reviews latest hacking techniques and adjusts the assessment accordingly to reflect the latest trends.
  • Collaborate with Technology SME’s to create use cases and correlation alerts for the organizations security systems monitoring tools for continuous security monitoring.

The Person:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in IT/ Computer Science/ Telecommunications/ Engineering (Electrical or Electronic) or related field from a recognized university.
  • Must possess at least one security certification such as CISM, CISA, Security+, CISSP, CCNA Security, CCNA Cyber security, CSA, CHFI, OSCP, GCIH or ECIH.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience in Information Technology; with at least:
    • 3 years’ experience in Information or Network or Computer Security.
    • 2 years’ experience in Security Information and Events Management (SIEM) Operations.
  • Experience/ Knowledge on Security Incident Detection and Response.
  • Good knowledge of Banking Operations.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills
  • Excellent problem analysis and attention to detail.

The NLP/Messaging Automation Intern will be responsible for;

Platform Implementation

  • Liase with our conversational learning experts to implement rich learning experiences over a variety of supported platforms.

  • Support of our Full-Stack software development team by acting as a bridge between the learning experts and the rest of the tech-department (of which you are a part).

Background, competencies and attributes

  • A master’s degree, or at least undergrad, in Computer Science.
  • Demonstrate-able experience in practical software development in one or multiple of the following software development languages: JavaScript/Node.JS/TypeScript/C#/.NET/Angular. Python a plus.
  • Demonstrated creativity, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to analyse and think through challenges, turning a limited set of tools and constructs into a rich domain language consisting out of reusable blocks.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Train students in specific technical skills area (Plumbing) and prepare them for formal examinations/trade test.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Training

  • Enrich the existing Curriculum to include emerging trends in the Plumbing Industry.
  • Develop lesson plans for training.
  • Take part in recruitment process of the new students.
  • Provide counseling to the students, address their disciplinary issues and assist in Conflict Resolution among them.
  • Prepare the students for their final examination and facilitate internal examinations.
  • Accompany the class to the examination center whenever called upon.
  • Ensure all qualified students are registered for the exams.
  • Assist in ensuring that all qualified students pay their contributions to the exams.
  • Ensure that the institutions values and principles are communicated to the students and their caregivers.

  • Report any damage caused and repairs needed in class and respective equipment.
  • Lock and open the class (workshop) in the morning and evening.

General Maintenance 

  • Assist in general repair and maintenance on areas that are relevant to the incumbents’ expertise whenever called to.
  • Advise the organization promptly on different areas that are related to the incumbents’ field.
  • Come up with products for the organizations use whenever called to.

Production

  • Spearhead production ventures of the organization with the help of students and casuals where necessary as per the set timelines.
  • Supervise casuals and students work in regards to production.
  • Ensure that the final products are of good quality so as to maintain satisfaction of RWMT clients.
  • Take part in wage preparation of the casual staff engaged in production.
  • Take part in conducting interviews for the casuals and staff in incumbent’s area of expertise.

Internal Administration

  • Provide quality and timely delivery of production and training reports in their agreed format and deadlines to facilitate follow-up and improvement of the work.
  • Maintain follow-up system to ensure efficient processes of production and training activities.
  • Actively maintain the internal referral system to ensure beneficiaries are provided with maximum support from the organization’s various expertise.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

(The knowledge, skills and abilities may be required through a combination of formal schooling, self-education and prior experience or on-the-job-training).

Level of education:

At least a Diploma in the area of technical skills training from a reputable Polytechnic or/and Technical Institutions. A Grade 1 Trade Test Certification in the area of specialization will be an added advantage.
