Product Manager, Lending at Tala (formerly InVenture)

Lead product strategy and execution for lending, across Kenya, Mexico and Philippines. As a key member of the Tala Lending product management team, you will be responsible for defining and delivering the next generation of lending and new loan products, working in close collaboration with technology and business stakeholders to achieve exceptional business results, while increasing value for our customers and delivering on Tala’s vision of financial agency for all.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize the product strategy and product roadmap
  • Build business cases and drive outcome oriented product prioritization decisions
  • Deliver clear and compelling product brief, specs, and user stories partnering closely with engineering to ensure excellent development execution
  • Influence key global stakeholders to determine product needs and requirements and develop a cohesive product strategy to meet key business goals
  • Leverage quantitative and qualitative insights coupled with a deep understanding of both consumer behavior and the local financial services ecosystem to drive outsized impact and ROI
  • Drive go to market planning of new products and features and own outcomes and success metrics

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years experience in Product Management, with track record of success in FinTech, consumer mobile apps or related industries
  • Demonstrated ability to ship new products and deliver meaningful business results
  • Deep understanding of customer experience and credit products
  • Capable consumer of modern analytics tools with strong data fluency
  • Demonstrated ability to provide direction, wires, and flows for UX design and set up experiments
  • Strong leadership presence with ability to vision set and manage through influence
  • Clear understanding of modern development practices and planning processes
  • Comfort working in a fast paced, dynamic environment with distributed teams

Space & Estates Officer (Kisumu) at Great Lakes University

The idea of establishing the Great Lakes University of Kisumu originated in the Tropical Institute of Community Health and Development (TICH) in Africa, which spearheaded the application for authority to operate as a university. The establishment of TICH was inspired by a number of sources expressing the need for a formal course in Community Based Health Care leading to a recognized academic qualification. Such a course would be offered by an academic institution that could effectively weave together theoretical, evidence based and practical hands-on analytical skills training into development, conducted in learning sites located in the community, civil society, industry and public institutions. It was thought that an Institute with the freedom to innovate but linked to an established University would be the best base for such a training program.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategically focused to support the achievement of the University’s key corporate objectives in the development of the estate and its services.
  2. Set up class rooms and communal meeting spaces for educational and other uses as directed by the various timetable and programs
  3. Carry out Planned Preventive Maintenance and routine daily, weekly and other periodic checks as required by service and operational requirements and manuals, including periodic readings of the various utility meters located across the campus.
  4. Work closely with the H.O.Ds to ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation on estates matters including OSHA and risk assessments.
  5. Have knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved with the maintenance, repair, and operation of buildings, grounds, and operating systems.

Qualification & Competencies Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Building and Construction or a related field.
  • 3- 5 years relevant experience preferably in a learning institution.
  • Ability to manage a complex property estates and facilities portfolio, staff and budgets.
  • High level strategic planning and organizational skills, including forward planning and forecasting.
  • The ability to respond appropriately to user demands and expectations.
  • Basic Electrical experience (e.g. make safe broken light switch/sockets/plugs, replace failed light bulbs, etc.)

Transport Officer (Kisumu) at Great Lakes University

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating with all the transport staff and the government authorities to keep the bus feet in a ready state for the inspection of the vehicle fleet insurance.
  • Responsible for the purchase of any equipment for the University vehicle fleet in compliance with all the existing policies and procedures.
  • Assemble and track route information, develop route maps and as changes occur and communicate this information to all impacted parties.
  • Perform ongoing evaluation of route efficiencies, develop strategies for improvement and report suggested changes to the management.
  • Assist with ongoing orientation, training and evaluation to the University drivers group and report any concerns to the HR Officer.

Qualification & Competencies Required

  • Bachelor’s degree Logistics management or in any relevant field.
  • 3- 5 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Physical capacity to cope with patrolling and intervening in potentially violent situations.
  • Significant experience in fleet management and / or logistics
  • Understanding of policies and procedures governing the management of motorized assets and the contracting of transportation services
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Demonstrated rational and logical thinking; ability to creatively and quickly find solutions to problems
  • Proven ability to manage personnel, delegate and follow-up; must be able to “multi-task
  • Experience managing inventories (e.g., asset and spare part stock management)

  • Provide clear advice to applicants on whether conditions have been imposed on their offer and appropriate information on how to meet those conditions.
  • In accordance with the University Admission Policy and guidelines, admit students on acceptance of their offer and confirm conditions have been met.
  • 5. Develop innovative communication strategies, recruitment strategies and enrolment plans in coordination with senior management to attract and enroll more students.

Qualification & Competencies Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Master’s degree will be added advantage.

  • Having a thorough and up to date understanding of relevant regulations regarding progression, referrals, and repeats in relations to the CUE
  • Liaising with Departments to ensure that deadlines for preparation of assessment documentation (exam papers, model answers etc.), and for marking of scripts are communicated to academic staff with adequate notice and by appropriate means;
  • Liaising with Departments to ensure that the dates and times for examinations and for Boards of Examiners are communicated to academic staff and external examiners with adequate notice and by appropriate means;
  • Organizing and overseeing the preparation of exam papers in line with the University’s policy for the Proof-Reading of Examination Papers and discipline requirements;
