Maersk Kenya is looking to hire a Legal Counsel to join our team in Nairobi. The EA Legal Counsel will report to the Area Legal Manager and will be the General legal advisor for Maersk East Africa area with focus on contracts, litigation and corporate secretarial work.

Key responsibilities
• Maintaining visibility and awareness on all litigation and disputes affecting Maersk and contribute to cross functional projects and initiatives to minimize legal risks and ensure achievement of the business objectives
• Ensure that all court disputes are reported and external counsel sufficiently advised.
• Maintaining proper records and actioning all legal correspondence.
• Advising and facilitating the due process in Company searches and other government enquiries.
• Assisting in recovery of debts owed to the company.
• Management of corporate governance, statutory compliance and licensing.
• Update internal systems with corporate data.
• Preparation of Minutes etc. for company meetings and absolute statutory compliance
• Maintain statutory books and registers and assist with preparation of statutory Returns and the filing of these within statutory timelines for all companies.
• Researching and advising on local and international law issues and relevant legislation affecting Maersk in the EA area.
• Managing external legal counsel and other professional advisers as necessary and managing the associated costs.
• Act as legal business partner by providing legal advisory support on corporate and legal issues to Area Management and all functions in the Area. Legal advisory support to the Management and organization at all levels on a variety of corporate and legal issues.
• Provision of area litigation report to the relevant stakeholders within the area and Region
• Drafting and reviewing commercial documents and advising on commercial transactions.
• Ensure that contracts with service providers and clients are in compliance with the Company’s contracting standards.
• Ensure best practice sharing with the region and area in terms of legal procedures
We are looking for
• Master of Laws Degree or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience, in-house or private practice.
• Result Oriented.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Being firm without creating undue conflict
