Job Description:

We are looking for three higly qualified Investigations Officers, P3, to join the team of the Nairobi Office of Inspections and Investigations (OIGI-NBO).The selected candidate will report to the Senior Investigations Officer P-5 OIGI-NBO, or delegate. The goal and mission of the OIGI is to conduct independent investigations into allegations of misconduct involving WFP staff, contractors and other applicable persons.The selected candidate will participate in internal reviews and assessments of complaints and allegations, efficiently plan and undertake assigned investigations and prepare comprehensive reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently plan and undertake office and field-based investigations into allegations of violations of policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and applicable rules and regulations.
  • Conduct interviews of witnesses and Subjects of investigation and gather and analyse facts and evidence.
  • Manage the work-flow of individual investigations within the set timeframes.
  • Take part in internal reviews and assessments of received complaints and allegations and make recommendations.
  • Prepare reports and ad hoc briefs pertaining to investigations and, based on analysis and findings, make recommendations for corrective actions, improved controls and efficiency of WFP operations.
  • Assess the potential for fraud and corruption in operational activities and contribute to the formulation of recommendations to senior management.
  • Provide guidance and advice to WFP employees on matters pertaining to the investigation of wrongdoing and direct staff appointed by field offices to assist in investigations.
  • Regularly appraise management on the progress of investigations and assess and advise management on probable impact of investigation outcomes.
  • Coordinate with local officials, governments, and external organizations to facilitate investigative work.
  • Effectively work and coordinate with other control and monitoring functions as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the development or develop policies and procedures and share best practices/lessons learnt from investigative work.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Advanced university degree in Criminology, Investigations, Law, Audit, Accounting or other related fields, or a first level degree with additional years of experience.
  • Formal training and/or certification in various law enforcement methodologies/fraud examination or investigation.

Experience:

  • Five years or more of relevant progressively responsible professional experience in conducting criminal or administrative investigations.
  • Previous experience of investigating internal fraud, sexual harassment, harassment, abuse of authority, and/or sexual exploitation and abuse cases is a strong asset.
  • Previous experience in conducting investigations with a UN organization, an international organisation (ie NGO), or an international financing institution, and working in developing countries, is an asset.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • In depth understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to investigations and practical use of investigation techniques.
  • Demonstrated skills in investigation planning, interviewing, analysis and reporting.
  • Familiarity with the use of various research methodologies and sources, including electronic sources and databases.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, and of UN rules and procedures, is an asset.
  • Expertise in handling facts/evidence related to investigations.
  • Ability to apply good judgment in the context of internal investigations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Language:

  • Fluency (level C) in English.

Assistant Research Officer at KEMRI Wellcome Trust

Job Purpose

The Health Services Unit (HSU) of the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust in Nairobi is starting a multi-year study to evaluate a broad strategy to improve the provision of neonatal care in Kenya’s county hospitals. The project will study a multi-component intervention that links regular performance monitoring and evaluation with efforts to improve the leadership, management and supervision skills of senior medical and nursing staff. As part of this work the research team helps support the Clinical Information Network that is a partnership with multiple Kenyan county hospitals. In each of these hospitals there is a uniform strategy of capturing high quality routine data on all Newborn Unit (NBU) admissions. These data are used to provide hospitals with regular reports on the NBU’s mortality and morbidity and on their performance in adhering to standard neonatal care guidelines as part of monitoring and improving the quality of NBU care provided. When pooled these data from multiple NBU become an important resource for understanding the outcomes of NBU care at larger scale than has previously been possible.

Key Responsibility

The Clinical Information Network for Newborns (CIN-N) is now seeking a new team member with epidemiological / statistical skills. The assistant research officer will work as part of a team under the direction of Study PI and the Senior Data Manager / Analyst for the CIN as part of the statistics and data management team but with special responsibilities for neonatal data. The person will:

  • Help manage the CIN-N data collection process, ensure the high quality of data, continue to improve the data systems and ensure these are adequately documented and ensure the production of timely hospital feedback reports and aggregate hospital reports for sharing with hospitals and other national stakeholders.
  • Help update / adapt the CIN-N data collection system so that it meets the needs of new projects
  • Work closely with CIN team members and assume some supervisory responsibility for ensuring hospital clerks are effectively managed. This work may include travel to county hospital sites and training / supervision of data clerks.
  • Liaise with senior CIN team members, county hospitals’ hospital management teams, paediatricians, senior nurses and HRIOs to ensure the smooth running of the CIN-N
  • Ensure the production of reports using CIN-N data for Principal Investigators and for project funders as required
  • Help present the data emerging from the CIN-N at internal meetings and in hospitals

This position will be linked to two major new projects over the next 3 to 4 years that are focused on improving hospital level care for sick newborns. The planned work is also being conducted in partnership with the Kenya Paediatric Association, the Kenya Paediatric Research Consortium, and the Ministry of Health as well as multiple county hospitals.

As part of a wider contribution to the KWTRP research programme in Nairobi the post-holder may partake in or help conduct internal epidemiological methodological workshops and shared learning sessions and will be expected to contribute to and help organise internal seminars and journal clubs and provide peer review of emerging proposals within KWTRP together with other senior scientists

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • BSc in a Healthcare Subject, Epidemiology or Medical/Bio Statistics
  • An excellent academic track record as evidenced by grades for undergraduate training
  • One year experience of the conduct of prior relevant research that has involved health data collection, analysis and report writing

Preferable

  • Good understanding of the Kenyan public health and hospital system and some understanding of DHIS2 and the Kenyan Health Information System
  • Practical experience in data management, data visualization, and basic methods of data analysis
  • Understanding of the procedures used for ensuring high quality data collection and management
  • Basic skills in use of the statistical programme ‘R’ or similar programmes such as STATA

The Childhood Acute Illness & Nutrition (CHAIN) Network is an international research network with a headquarters in Nairobi that is conducting harmonised research to improve outcomes in sick undernourished children in Africa and Asia. The job will involve coordination of various activities and planning for meetings both local and international, and creating regular high-quality progress reports. The post will require a high level of communications skills to engage with site coordinators and PIs in study sites in East and West Africa, and South Asia. The post holder will have to be able to work unsupervised, often with a variable timescale, sometimes out of hours and may will require some international travel. The post is mentally demanding, and involves a high level of communication among trial staff, with trial sites, regulatory bodies and the wider community.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for developing and maintaining a calendar of activities in consultation with the Programme Manager and management team.
  • Be responsible for tracking approvals and regulatory renewals and reports, and ensuring timely preparation and submission.

Job Description:

The World Bank Country Office in Kenya is seeking a highly organized and energized professional, capable of operating effectively and discreetly in a very demanding, fast-paced and culturally diverse environment, to work as a Team Assistant based in Nairobi, Kenya.

The successful candidate will work under the leadership of the Country Director and the day to day supervision of the Senior Executive Assistant and Program Leader who provide supervision and guidance to the ACS (Administrative and Client Support) staff. Selected candidate will provide administrative and client support to the Operational Staff. The job implies frequent interaction with other institutional units, staff in other locations (locally and internationally), Government officials, consultants and external organizations.

Responsibilities:

The Team Assistant’s duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Operational and administrative support

  • Use desktop processing skills to produce complex texts, reports, presentations, charts, figures, graphs, etc., according to World Bank format and distribution.
  • Collect and input data provided by Task Team Leaders (TTLs) into the central database, including processing new project status reports.
  • Keep abreast of the Organization’s directives and ensure effective processing of all project documents.
  • Draft correspondence (standard letters, memos, faxes, etc.) conforming to the Organization’s regional standards, using proper grammar, punctuation and style and proofread materials;
  • Draft minutes of meetings and provide assistance in editing large documents.
  • Maintain up-to-date unit project files (both paper and electronic) and retrieve data from various sources and compile these for use by the TTLs. Program Leader, Country Director and/or the Country Management Unit (CMU).

Information Management and Client interaction:

  • Answer internal and external queries on the assigned portfolio or, as necessary, take accurate and comprehensive telephone messages, and route them to appropriate persons to handle.
  • Maintain current distribution lists, phone/address lists of project/product contacts, and distribute documents for the team.
  • Coordinate with service units, and liaise frequently with team members both in Washington and in the Country Office;
  • Track and report on appropriate aspects of the Team’s operational activities

Time management & Logistics planning:

  • Coordinate time management and schedules, taking current and future priorities into account, anticipate and monitor changes, and communicate the information;
  • Track assigned tasks/project steps/ timetables using modern office management technologies, coordinate with relevant staff, provide assistance and/or information on project-related matters;
  • Solve non-routine problems creatively and resourcefully and assist in preparation and logistical planning for various events, e.g. conferences, workshops, negotiations, board presentation and signing, etc.

Qualifications:

Among other criteria, the successful candidate should be holding:

  • Preferably a Diploma in Secretarial Studies or Office Management or Business Administration
  • A minimum of Three (3) years relevant work experience in a large International or Service or Private Sector Organization;
