Project Associate, Key Population (Bomet) at I Choose Life – Africa

I Choose Life – Africa (ICL) is a leading Kenyan NGO registered in 2004. ICL works using the Quadra Helix Model of partnering with the Government of Kenya, through the Ministries of Health, Education, Agriculture, Youth Affairs and Vision 2030 among others, Corporates, Universities and Civil Society Organisations, to design interventions to solve problems in different communities. ICL has programs around four pillars namely Jiimarishe (Health), Jiinue (Economic Empowerment), Jielimishe (Academic and Career mentorship), Jiongoze (leadership and Governance)

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Regional Manager and will work closely with the Pillar heads and liaise with the CASCO, other government officers and stakeholders at the county and sub-county levels. He/she will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of project deliverables at the KP Drop-in Centre, integrated facilities and community programs in Bomet County.

Key duties and Responsibilities

Project Research & Design

  • Provide overall coordination of the KP activities in the Drop-in Centre and integrated health facilities including peer education, outreach activities and meeting all required targets
  • Offer mentorship and technical support to the key population health service providers for effective service delivery
  • Ensure provision of quality clinical services at the outreach, DiCE and integrated facilities in accordance with the current clinical practices and approved national guidelines
  • Provide coordination of the KP structural interventions by closely working with the County and Sub County Health Management Teams and other KP stakeholders.**

Project Financing and Sustainability

  • Participate in developing project monthly budget.
  • Participate in resource mobilization through idea generation and proposal development
  • Participate in developing project annual budget
  • Participate in ensuring donor and organizational financial procedures and systems are followed**

Project Planning

  • Ensure HIV positive KPs are enrolled for care, initiated on treatment and appropriately followed up for better treatment outcomes
  • Ensure an effective referral and linkage system of KPs for various services
  • Guide the KP health service providers on compiling monthly data and appropriate reports
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all levels
  • Document lessons learnt and challenges to inform program decisions
  • Ensure tracking and reporting of all peer education and HIV/AIDS activities in the area, set targets, help peer educators overcome challenges experienced and note best practices

Projects Implementation and Coordination

  • Responsible for ensuring that project is implemented in accordance with the contractual obligations
  • Together with M&E officer, write and check activity reports to ensure that they conform to set goals and objectives
  • Participate in project implementation work plans that have measurable performance indicators with all project staff
  • Together with M&E officer collate and document of organizational best practices.
  • Responsible in understanding and implementation of organizational deliverables
  • Responsible for organizational project reports to the partners, GoK and donors as per the requirements in liaison with programs manager and M&E Officer

Project Monitoring, Evaluation and Control

  • Ensure follow up on agreed activities/strategies and appropriate use of MOH reporting tools
  • Supervise development and implementation of recruitment and retention strategies for program clients
  • Act as the community liaison officer for the KP program
  • Coordinate linkages for GBMSM in the program, track and report all programme activities

Resource Mobilization

  • Taken part in resource mobilization through participation in proposal development with other program staff
  • Designed, implemented and evaluated projects with an aspect of resource mobilization
  • Any other duties in line with the organization Mission and Vision

Education and Training

  • A diploma in a health-related course, social sciences will be an added advantage
  • Valid HIV management training
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a HIV program and or SRH
  • Economic empowerment programs is an added advantage
  • Experience working with Key Populations is desired
  • Good oral and written communication skills (English and Swahili)
  • Computer literacy in the use of MS Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is desired
  • Ability to work and deliver results with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player

Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of 2 -year hands on experience in implementation of HIV prevention programs such as EBIs
  • S/He should also have experience in community training and community mobilization
  • Ability to work with a team, foster a team approach and incorporate capacity building activities into the program
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical and report writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop institutional partnerships and build networks
  • Be an excellent communicator and willingness to work in a multi –sectoral team setting
  • Computer literate with an ability to analyze and utilize program development gaps for decision making.
