Vihiga County Job Vacancy : Principle Information Officer

Vihiga County Public Service Board (CPSB) is a body corporate established under Section 57 of the County Governments Act, 2012 pursuant to Article 235 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010. Section 59 of the County Governments Act 2012 outlines the functions of the CPSB among them being “appoint persons to hold or act in offices of the county public service including in the Boards of cities and urban areas within the county and to confirm appointments”. Pursuant to Constitutional and Legal provisions, Vihiga County Public Service Board invites competent and qualified person to be considered position of Head of Radio on contractual basis.

Responsibilities

An officer at this level will be answerable to the Director, Communication and Public Relations for the following duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research, plan and develop on air content, ideas and concepts in line with the station strategy and values.
  • On air presentation/continuity and acting on feedback from listeners.
  • Write broadcasting reports and execute commercial logs.
  • Music research, identify and propose music that should be incorporated into the station sound.
  • Carry out outside broadcasting/Road shows and attend functions on behalf of the station.
  • Receiving briefs from clients/ marketers/ supervisor and executing accordingly.
  • Managing, scripting, recording, packaging and production of station news/ features.
  • Creatively create and execute on air gaming elements.
  • Conceptualize and execute online campaigns for various projects.
  • Ensure all social media platforms are updated regularly.
  • Appraise Director of Communication & Public Relations on new trends in online tools, applications, channels, design & strategy.
  • Liaise with digital sales officers to create campaigns that can be commercialized
  • Monitor competition stations and advise as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Be a Kenyan Citizen;
  • Have vast knowledge and relevant work experience of not less than eight (8) years in media industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferable in Journalism and Mass Communication or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C- (minus) with a minimum of C in Mathematics and English or Kiswahili or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
  • Fulfilled all the requirements of Chapter six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
  • Proven communication, proficiency in computer applications and report writing skills;
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and Swahili BUT Maragoli, Kinyore and Tiriki will be added advantage;
  • Be registered with Media Council of Kenya;
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the National, Values and Principles of Governance as outlined in Articles 10 and 232 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010;
  • Able to work long hours/odd hours without supervision;
  • Must be social media savvy, innovative and creative;
  • Demonstrate professional approach and appearance including enthusiasm, drive, commitment, honesty, trust and loyalty;
  • Keep abreast of evolving trends through continuing professional education in the area of digital platforms;
  • Understand Media Law and Ethics; and
  • Must have a rich voice with an ear for radio.
