Kenya Red Cross is one of the many International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement societies around the world. The Kenya organisation was established in 1965, The Kenya Red Cross supports and runs a number of projects whilst raising awareness to the Kenyan public about the current issues or problems which may affect them.
1. Project Assistant – Dadaab
PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Health and Nutrition Manager, the Project Assistant will be responsible for monitoring, evaluation, data management, coordinating, implementation, and documentation of strategies to effectively address project interventions. S/he will support in the coordination of project activities in Dadaab refugee camp with technical support from the Health and Nutrition Manager and Programme Coordinator at HQ.
Key Responsibilities
- To support the overall implementation of the project, including reporting, financial management and monitoring.
- Ensure effective collaboration with the County and sub county for project updates and any other related technical support
- Support the CHVs in the implementation of project activities as stipulated in the agreement as well as ensure they are reaching the stipulated targets.
- Ensure that project volunteers (CHVs/Incentives) have necessary tools for implementation of the planned project work including relevant adapted IEC materials
- Ensure realization of verifiable data and full reporting for all project deliverables in relation to M&E functions
- Ensure adequate data quality is maintained in the Camp by ensuring accurate, complete and reliable datasets and reports are submitted to HQ.
- Support in planning and conducting capacity building initiatives for CHVs/Incentives and other implementing partners
- Continuously assess the skills and capacities of the project volunteers; organize on the job training to update their knowledge and skills e.g. through weekly, monthly / quarterly meetings
- Ensure implementation of community health strategy through collaborative effort with CHS Coordinator, CHS County and sub County, supervisors/Community Health Committees (CHCs) and support CHVs to create awareness through community health dialogue days and action days among others
- Monitor project implementation activities by the CHVs to ensure timely and quality implementation of project vis-à-vis approved work plans and targets
- In collaboration with the project accountant, ensure proper management and accountability of funds in line with financial and budgetary policies and procedures of GF TB grant
- Participate in various stakeholders meetings organized either by UNHCR or the County and Sub County and other implementing partners within Dadaab
- Support programmatic documentation of promising practices, case studies and lessons learnt for purposes of knowledge sharing and improvement in programming.
Minimum Qualifications
- Public Health, Social Development or equivalent qualifications
- Relevant post-graduate qualification in Community, or equivalent qualifications with certificate in project management
- Work experience of over four (4) years in TB/HIV related
- Over four (3) years’ experience in Grants and Project Management.
- Additional experience in Health grant programs will be an added advantage
Key Competencies
- Knowledge on TB and HIV management, trends and goals at national and regional levels aimed at preventing and alleviating TB/HIV related human suffering
- Very strong M&E skills
- Demonstrated technical experience in project planning and budgeting as well as programme monitoring and evaluation
- Ability to initiate and manage change and to recognize and adjust to rapidly changing conditions in order to align project to the GF strategic plan.
- Ability to foster teamwork and communication among staff and stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills including ability to build collaborative relationships with sensitivity to cultural, ethnic and political issues
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, data-base, email and utilization of the internet
2. Data Analyst Intern
Overall Purpose
The Data Analyst Intern will play an important role in assisting the Research Unit reach its objectives in generation of research knowledge for evidence based decision making in the Humanitarian sector.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Database design
- Identifying data sources, collect information/data on District/County level indicators.
- Assist in managing core datasets through data gathering, coding and cleaning
- Access and prepare data for use by other teams
- Active participation in the design and maintenance of contextualized datasets for ongoing research assignments
- Assist in preparation and presentation of core data
- Assisting in desk research on topical issues and through literature and policy reviews in readiness for analysis.
- Maintaining an awareness of the landscape and debates on data in the humanitarian sphere and flag this the research team.
- Contributing to ICHA research papers, reports and blogs.
Minimum Qualifications
- An undergraduate qualification in the field of data science, statistics, scientific research, econometrics, mathematics, computer science or similar discipline.
- Any technical certificate in a related discipline (desirable).

3. Business Engagement & Innovation Officer
PURPOSE:
Kenya Red Cross is implementing an Urban Resilience project targeting six informal settlements in Nairobi. The projects objective is to build the resilience of communities living in the informal settlement through innovation and partnerships. The project will be implemented from 2018 -2020 with funding from the Danish Red Cross.
Reporting to the County Coordinator, the Business Engagement an Innovation Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing a business engagement strategy to support economic opportunities for the vulnerable populations living in Nairobi informal settlement. S/he will serve as an integral part of the program team, focused on driving awareness, engaging businesses and promoting innovation to improve community business systems and strategies in order to enhance economic opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serves as the project’s principal liaison with the private sector
- Facilitate entrepreneurship trainings at the community level
- Map potential business engagement opportunities, including already existing trainings and internships
- Support community in development of business plans
- Support human centred and co creation workshops to promote innovation
- Set up community based innovation hubs
- Establish formal alliances with educational institutions, financial institutions and businesses;
- Track best practices and maintain a breadth of knowledge about current trends, emerging issues and opportunities in business engagement efforts
- Ensure proper accounts in accordance to the KRCS regulations and donor requirements.
- Support in any other duties as assigned by KRCS
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Entrepreneurship or other related field with in depth understanding of poverty and vulnerability issues in Kenya’s Informal settlements
- Proven track record developing, implementing and evaluating business development plans with a focus on measurable results;
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement multi-sector partnerships, based on an understanding of private sector trends and environments;
- Proficient and experienced in planning, monitoring and reporting of project activities in relevant field in multi-stakeholder partnerships and collaborations
Key Competencies
- Able to coordinate and network with partners to build synergies that enhance sustainability of the project outcomes.
- Sensitive and responsive to gender, ethnicity, disability and other social issues

4. Climate Research Intern
Overall Purpose
This role will support climate science and related social science research and project implementation in the International Centre for Humanitarian Affairs (ICHA), an establishment of the Kenya Red Cross Society.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical support on climate science for implementation of various ongoing/ upcoming projects related to forecast based early warning early action, climate services and climate science research.
- Support engagement with key institutions and actors at both national and county level.
- Support project documentation, reporting and development of publications.
- Provide administrative support such as organizing meetings, stakeholder communication and follow up.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team working on research related to climate science, climate change and disaster risk management/reduction.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in climate science, meteorology or climate change.
- Relevant practical experience in working on research and research projects.
Desired Competencies
- Interest in inter-disciplinary work and profound interest in understanding use of climate science for risk reduction and management.
- Good ability to organise small workshops and conduct interviews and focus groups.
- Excellent English writing skills with ability to author reports, policy briefs and working / academic papers.
- A strong and reliable communicator able to coordinate and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to work independently and under the supervision of Project Manager – Climate Research.
- Willingness to travel.
- Experience in working on disaster risk reduction projects, wider climate change and sustainability will be an added advantage.
