Roving Laboratory Technologist at LVCT Health

LVCT Health is an indigenous Kenyan non-governmental and not-for-profit organization established in 2001. We are driving Kenya towards HIV prevention, with an ultimate goal of reducing HIV infections to zero. We offer integrated HIV services through development of models that are scaled up to the national models. We also carry out sexual and reproductive health research – translating our research to policy and practice; providing evidence for HIV policy reforms and service delivery; and developing capacities of indigenous organizations in building sustainable human resources for community HIV Prevention. We give special attention to those with greatest vulnerability to infection and with special service needs – including survivors of sexual violence, persons living with disabilities, men who have sex with men, Youth and Sex Workers. Our offices are in Nairobi, Western Region, Eastern and Central Region and Rift Valley.

Overall Purpose

Responsible for ensuring delivery of daily quality and efficient laboratory services as per the laid- out guidelines and policies. The roving laboratory technologist will manage laboratory operations in the region, developing and review procedures to ensure safety, quality, and accuracy of results in line with Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP), performing tests and reviewing results, compiling reports and managing laboratory commodity supply chain.

Minimum requirement:

  • Degree or a Higher National Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Must be registered with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist Board (KMLTTB) and have a valid practicing license
  • 5 years progressive work experience 3 of which must have been in a Laboratory supervisory role with excellent technical knowledge in laboratory networking.
  • Training/certification in ISO 15189 or Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) will be an added advantage.

  • Self-motivated and able to work under minimum supervision.
  • Able to work under pressure and in a diverse laboratory environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate.
  • Demonstrated leadership and a history of excellent problem-solving skill.
  • Excellent organizational, computer and record-keeping skills.
