Systems Administrator at Health Strat

We are inviting applications from experienced and qualified individuals for the position of Systems Administrator based in our Nairobi Office.

Job Purpose:

Monitoring and Evaluation & Strategic Information Systems (MESIS) Project is a project led by Health Strat in partnership with the National AIDS and STI Control Program (NASCOP) through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The project supports enhancing strategic information capacity for HIV/AIDS programs towards sustaining epidemic control in Kenya through monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and data science.

The Systems Administrator will be responsible for the maintenance, configuration, reliable and efficient operation of computer systems and servers.

S/he will report to the ICT Officer.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization
  • Install and upgrade DHIS2 application software, managing and controlling the application, manage virtual servers and integrate automation processes
  • Troubleshoot system errors running audits and diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
  • Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
  • Lead desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions
  • Responsible for capacity, storage planning, and database performance
  • Responsible for the availability, security, access, backup, and performance of the cloud
  • Document configuration and installation procedures
  • Build an internal wiki with technical documentation and manuals

Person Specifications:

Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent

Professional Qualifications & Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience working with MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQL databases, system administration with hands on experience in Linux, MS Windows server 2016/2019 architecture
  • System administration and IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields
  • Expert knowledge of implementing patch management for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and MS Windows based systems from a centralized management solution
  • Set up and working knowledge of virtualization, VMWare, or equivalent on Debian and windows platforms
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
  • Solid Shell/Bash scripting skills; developing, maintaining custom shell scripts, able to troubleshoot scripts related to PowerShell, C shell or Perl
  • A proven track record working with Tomcat servlet container and Servlet API’s (Docker, Openshift, Kubernates)
  • Understanding of modern infrastructure design & administration, experience of using Cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT systems and plans
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols, installation and upgrade of computer components and software applications; management of virtual servers and integration of automation processes
