Barclays Bank Job Vacancy : Data Architect

The role is a technical role reporting into the Chief Data Office responsible for designing, creating, deploying and managing the bank’s data architecture to meet the current and long-term enterprise data architecture requirements, as well as ensuring that the respective business, application, data and technology set ups are in line with the bank’s data governance and the group’s enterprise architecture standards.

 

 

Job Purpose

The role holder will work with the group Data Architecture team to deliver the target data architecture for the country domains and programs as well as analysis and design of Data Warehouse, Big Data, BI, Data Analytics or complex Data Migration solutions, including analysing source systems, designing ETL routines and resolving data quality issues.

Main accountabilities and approximate time split

 

Key Accountability: Business Intelligence Development. 70%	Define structure, integrate, govern, store, describe, model, and maintain data in the enterprise for accuracy and usage as per the Group’s enterprise data architecture standards Map to information entities that can define how information should flow and be consumed by various business and technical customers Support policies and procedures enforced by the data governance council to ensure best practices of data architecture including accountability, governance, and requirements Support operational use of data for business process functions such as customer centricity, sales force effectiveness, product positioning, sales efficiency, and other domain centric functions Document data inventory and data flow diagrams to determine what can be measured, when and how Source and review data dictionaries for core systems and data models developed and consumed in the data landscape Work collaboratively with stakeholders and communicate architectural designs to audiences at all levels including senior executives Undertake design assurance on key projects ensuring that changes to the architecture take account of relevant goals, principles, practices, strategies, roadmaps, policies, standards Provide and lead document review activities related to data lineage and data flows Gather and analyze feedback on the Enterprise Architecture framework and continuously improve the meta-models, processes and tools
Accountability: Governance and Control. 10%	Provide input on the design of data extracts and static reports for external parties and statutory reports. Ensure that reports for external parties are checked (example balancing to the GL, source to source checking) and approved by business prior to distribution. Participate in the development of data extracts and reports for BBK and business units in the country. Conduct regular checks to ensure that data architecture standards set by the central team are well implemented by the data engineers and developers Provide consultation and advice to business teams during the development of control, finance and business data models. Oversee the design of specific data engineering solutions to promote customer centricity and zero data quality issues. Resolve issues escalated from team members, group teams or the business.
Accountability: Business Management. 10%	·         Assist in developing and implementing a program of continuous improvement of BI processes through a cycle of analysis of existing systems, processes, and tools, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing high-impact changes, and getting feedback from stakeholders. ·         Understand Key Performance Measures and Indicators that drive company performance measurement, reporting, and analytics across functions and understand how these metrics and measures align and track against overall business strategies, goals and objectives.
Accountability: People Management. 10%	·         Work with colleagues in the team to achieve excellent service by providing regular feedback on issues and recommending quick and practical solutions to issues found during BI development. ·         Work closely with cross-functional teams (Treasury, Corporate, Retail, Risk, Marketing, IT, E-Channels, Customer Experience, etc.) to assess new reporting solutions, systems, technologies, and controls.
Knowledge, Technical skills / Competencies
Skills and experience required: ·         Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related degree in the analytical field ·         Expert knowledge data and enterprise architecture. ·         In depth experience in data modeling, solution architecture and database design ·         Experience in enterprise infrastructure or data design and planning. ·         Experience in application development or architectural design of enterprise application using key development tools and frameworks ·         TOGAF certification will be an added advantage. ·         Demonstrated experience in working with or leading a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) integration environment. ·         Strong background in understanding organizational resources, priorities, needs and policies, and use of the same in developing IT strategies and solutions. ·         Data management knowledge: data governance, data quality management, data security management, data development, and data operations management.
Knowledge, Expertise and Experience
Specification ·         Minimum 2 years’ experience in enterprise data modeling, data architecture    design and maintaining complex data landscapes with extensive data lineage ·         Proven experience in with enterprise level data warehouses ·         A strong background in creating conceptual, logical and physical data models ·         Knowledge of relational databases plus the Hadoop data platform ·         Experience around data acquisition tools ideally Informatica, SSIS and  Teradata Utility ·         Reporting and dashboard tools ·         Experience in documenting and implementing Data models ·         Data Analysis tools experience (R/Python/SAS) will be an added advantage
