Barclays Bank Job Vacancy : Business intelligence Developer

The role is a technical BI development role reporting into the Chief Data Office and specializing in development of BI solutions for automation, dimension modeling, reporting and delivery of insights.

 

Job Purpose

The role holder is responsible for the detailed analysis, design and development of business intelligence systems, dashboards and reports. Additionally this role will be required to maintain and support systems and applications within this section. Knowledge of financial systems, business intelligence systems, query technologies, databases and ETL tools is highly preferred.

Main accountabilities and approximate time split

 

Key Accountability: Business Intelligence Development. 70%	Develop and implement Business intelligence reports, dashboards and other solutions that ensure business optimization and requirements fulfillment. Analyze business/use case requirements from BI analysts to determine operational problems, define data modeling requirements, gather and validate information, apply judgment and statistical tests and develop data structures to support the generation of business insights and strategy; Build visualizations to summarize and present key messages to business and other stakeholders; Filter, “clean” data, and review reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems; Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and domain specific data marts, dimension models and analytical cubes Guide the business in drawing report formats & wireframes and advice on the best approach to automate these reports. Design and code reports/dashboards according to user specification with the key objective of delivering reports that will assist in decision making and control. Provide test interfaces for users to test the reports and dashboards before being put on the production environment. Develop and maintain documentation/manuals on solutions developed, configured and setup. Carry out technical user training as required to enable users interpret BI solutions. Make changes to system/database configurations and parameters to accommodate business and technological requirements. Secure BI solutions by putting adequate controls and restrict access to programs by users in accordance to the requirements of the bank. Deal with queries from users and resolve or advise them accordingly. Attend to systems/solution failures and resolve or coordinate the resolution of the problem. Roll-out Business intelligence solutions to stakeholders. Assist in preparing system definition/specification by the users highlighting technical requirements. Carry-out analysis of requirements and recommend solutions to address user requirements. Carry-out system testing and remediate UAT issues for BI solutions.
Accountability: Governance and Control. 10%	Provide input on the design of data extracts and static reports for external parties and statutory reports. Ensure that reports for external parties are checked (example balancing to the GL, source to source checking) and approved by business prior to distribution. Participate in the development of data extracts and reports for BBK and SBUs in the country. Conduct regular checks to ensure that standards as set by the Data Governance Council have been met. Provide consultation and advice to business teams during the development of control, finance and business data models. Coach sub ordinates on how to interpret reports and analytical outputs, integrate different subject matter and add business context and insight. Oversee the design of specific reports, including, segmentation, leads analysis, customer profitability and customer interaction reporting. Resolve issues escalated from team members, group teams or the business.
Accountability: Business Management. 10%	·         Assist in developing and implementing a program of continuous improvement of BI processes through a cycle of analysis of existing systems, processes, and tools, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing high-impact changes, and getting feedback from stakeholders. ·         Understand Key Performance Measures and Indicators that drive company performance measurement, reporting, and analytics across functions and understand how these metrics and measures align and track against overall business strategies, goals and objectives.
Accountability: People Management. 10%	·         Work with colleagues in the team to achieve excellent service by providing regular feedback on issues and recommending quick and practical solutions to issues found during BI development. ·         Work closely with cross-functional teams (Treasury, Corporate, Retail, Risk, Marketing, IT, E-Channels, Customer Experience, etc.) to assess new reporting solutions, systems, technologies, and controls.
Knowledge, Technical skills / Competencies
Skills and experience required: ·         Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related degree in the analytical field ·         Experience in BI/software development specifically in SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, DQS and the Teradata stack. ·         Very good knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and a fair knowledge of Unix and Linux ·         A good understanding of relational databases, particularly SQL Server and Oracle ·         Good understanding of programming languages and other programming tools ·         Experience with data modeling, data management and data processing ·         Experience in analysis, design and development of efficient business systems ·         Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy ·         Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing large datasets (R, Python, Scala, SAS etc.) will be an added advantage ·         Good knowledge of reporting and business analytics tools ·         Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques ·         Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages
