| The role holder is responsible for the extraction, transformation and loading of data from primary or secondary data sources as well as maintaining databases, data systems, BI solutions and models in the data and analytics domain. Knowledge of financial systems, data quality systems, data modelling, query technologies, databases and ETL tools is highly preferred.

Business Intelligence Development. 70%
|
- Gather information from platform stewards, operational system custodians and vendors about data lineage and source system data structures
- Analyze business/use case requirements from BI analysts to determine operational problems, define data modeling requirements, gather and validate information, apply judgment and develop data structures to support the proper staging of data from source systems;
- Receive data requests BI developers and data scientists and present the requested data in exploratory data marts
- Monitor alignment between technology teams and the data analytics domains
- Manage queue of data requests from operational systems and communicate to the appropriate Advanced analytics, BI, or data management functions
- Assist in developing and implementing a program of continuous improvement of BI processes through a cycle of analysis of existing systems, processes, and tools, identifying areas for improvement, implementing high-impact changes and getting feedback from stakeholders.
- Create scheduled jobs to extract data from operational systems on a regular basis;
- Extract transform and load data to data stores as required
- Locate and define new business and technological process improvement opportunities
- Provide test interfaces for technical users to test business logic and integration solutions before being put on the production environment.
- Develop and maintain documentation/manuals on data lineage, data integration, system configuration or setup.
- Assist in preparing system definition/specification by the users highlighting technical requirements.
- Deploy BI solutions, models, analysis, and scripts into production from the development team

Accountability: Governance and Control. 10%
|
- Provide input on the design of data extracts and static reports for external parties and statutory reports. Ensure that reports for external parties are checked (example balancing to the GL, source to source checking) and approved by business prior to distribution.
- Conduct regular checks to ensure that standards as set by the Data Architect and Governance lead have been met.
- Provide consultation and advice to business teams during the development of control, finance and business data models.
- Make changes to system/database configurations and parameters to accommodate business and technological requirements.
- Secure BI solutions by putting adequate controls and restrict access to data in the operational data stores, staging environment and data marts by users in accordance to the requirements of the bank.
- Resolve issues escalated from team members, ROA team or the business.

· Work with colleagues in the team to achieve excellent service by providing regular feedback on issues and recommending quick and practical solutions to issues found during BI development.
- Deal with queries from users and resolve or advise them accordingly.
- Attend to systems/solution failures and resolve or coordinate the resolution of the problem
- Carry out technical user training as required to enable users interpret BI solutions.

| Skills and experience required:
· Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related degree analytical field
· Experience in ETL development, data engineering or BI development
· Very good knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, Unix and Linux
· A good understanding of relational databases, particularly Microsoft and Teradata
· A good understanding of ETL tools e.g. Pentaho, Teradata utility, SSIS and Informatica
· Good understanding of programming languages and other programming tools
· Experience with relational data modeling, data management and data processing
· Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
· Good knowledge of Microsoft reporting and business analytics tools
· Technical expertise regarding data models, data transformation, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
· Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages
