Managing Director at Chemelil Sugar

The company of choice in manufacture of sugar and other related products.To produce high quality mill white sugar as part of national strategy for achieving self-sufficiency in sugar requirement in the country; and To contribute towards the integrated economic development within Western Kenya.

Job Purpose

The job holder is responsible for the day to day business of the corporation while ensuring effective communication between the management and Board as well as between the different levels of management.

Key Responsibilities / Duties / Tasks

Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Develop and recommend to the Board the long term strategy, business plans, annual operating budgets and establish proper internal monitoring and control systems/procedures.
  • Ensure that there is effective communication between the management and the Board as well as between different levels of management.
  • Provide leadership to all the employees.
  • Attend to personnel matters including organizational structure, appointments. welfare. training and industrial relations. Separation and effective management succession plans.
  • Ensure continuous improvements in the quality and value of services and products provided by the company.
  • Oversee and ensure implementation of company policies & programs.
  • Ensure continuous achievement of the company financial and operating goals & objectives.
  • Maintain a conducive work environment for attracting, retaining and motivating employees.
  • Foster a culture that promotes ethical practices and good corporate citizenship.
  • Act as the principal spokesperson of the company.
  • Ensure compliance with the laws of the country.

Operational Responsibilities/Tasks

  • Coordinate all the operations of the company.
  • Coordinate and prepare business related proposals, reports and other submissions for consideration by the board.

Financial Responsibility

  • Approval of budgets.
  • Approval of expenditures.
  • Approval of Procurement plan.

Decision Making/ Job Influence:

  • Make strategic. operational and financial decisions for the company.
  • Plan the work of subordinates.
  • Assign work to subordinates.
  • Monitor subordinates work performance.
  • Appraise/evaluate subordinates performance.

Job Competencies (Knowledge, Experience and Attributes / Skills)

Academic/Professional Qualifications.

  • Master’s degree in an Agriculture/ Management oriented field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Engineering or any other relevant field.
  • Must be registered by the relevant field of academics or a member of professional body relevant to the field studied.

Previous relevant work experience required and age.

  • At least 9 years’ experience with 5 years in a managerial role.
  • The candidate should not be more than 56 years of age.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • A Certificate of Good Conduct from Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
  • A Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Boards (HELB).
  • A Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
  • A Clearance Certificate by the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
  • Clearance horn the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
