Role Purpose: The overall purpose of the health cluster is to provide health leadership in emergency and crisis preparedness, response and recovery; prevent and reduce emergency-related morbidity and mortality; ensure evidence-based actions, gap filling and sound coordination; and enhance accountability, predictability and effectiveness of humanitarian health actions.
The Health Cluster Co-Coordinator will contribute to the fulfillment of the Health Cluster’s purposes, which entails providing substantial assistance in the implementation of inclusive, field-level humanitarian coordination mechanisms, including liaison with relevant UN operational agencies, NGOs, and local authorities.
Contract Duration: 12 months
Location: Juba
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
- Degree in Medicine and /or Public Health.
- Health professional with extensive experiences of humanitarian response and coordination mechanism for 5-6 years, of which at least 3 in managing and coordinating health programme in chronic, acute and sudden-onset emergencies.
- Prior experience on coordination, representation, negotiation,
- Experience of preparing successful funding proposals for donors,
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports and a high level of written and spoken English
- Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
- The capacity and willingness to be flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
- Commitment to the aims and principles of humanitarian coordination.
- Familiar with the South Sudan health system and context, as well as working and living experiences in South Sudan
Desirable:
- Language skills in English
