Our client, is a General Insurer with excellent services in underwriting both General Insurance and Life Assurance policies. The company offers market leading insurance products and services to customers and is a dominant player in the region.
In order to continue with local growth, our client seeks to hire a Head of Claims.
Overall Purpose Of The Job
The job holder is responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Legal department, provision of legal advisory services and ensuring effective management of legal and contractual risks
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and ensure efficient and effective management of staff and resources in the Legal department
- Liaise with Claims and Investigations to provide staff and that will lead a team comprising of a claims officer and investigator in handling specific matters
- Review ongoing cases and provide legal advice on insurance / claims and other documents accordingly
- Liaise with relevant departments to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action have been taken.
- Provide and interpret legal information and disseminate appropriate legal requirements to staff
- Review progress of outstanding litigation and liaise with and manage external lawyers
- Conduct performance appraisals, training and development of staff and ensuring an effective and motivated team
Qualifications
- LLB undergraduate degree from recognized institution
- A Master’s degree will be an added advantage
- Must be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
- Insurance Qualification an added advantage
- Aged between 35-45 years
- At least five years legal experience ideally in general Insurance organization five years current practicing certificate with a proven track record in contract negotiation and drafting
- Proven track record of providing accurate and effective legal counsel
- Proven track record of adding value to an organization through the development of comprehensive documents that mitigate risk and penalties

- Government of Kenya, the judicial system, the insurance regulator and negotiating parties
- Demonstrate knowledge of, and experience with, laws dealing with government and/or commercial

- Ability to provide independent advice (orally and in writing) to senior level management on highly
- Technical matters
- Demonstrate success in managing and conducting a variety of litigation matters
- Good planning and organization skills and proven ability to delicately solve sensitive matters.
