Tharaka Nithi County is one of the forty seven (47) counties in Kenya. It borders the Counties of Embu to the South and South West, Meru to the North and North East, Kirinyiga and Nyeri to the West and Kitui to the East and South East.
1. Community Oral Health Officer
Positions: two (2) Posts
Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C (Plain) and C (Plain) in English/ Kiswahili and Biology/Biological Sciences and C-(Minus) grade in either chemistry, physics/physical sciences, mathematics or general sciences; and
- Diploma in Community Oral Health from Kenya Medical Training College or its equivalent from a recognized
Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail;
- participation in oral health demonstrations, exhibitions and giving lectures to communities and schools;
- collecting data for fluoride testing in water samples, analyzing and interpreting results and advisisng the relevant authorities accordingly;
- diagnosis and treatment of common dental conditions;
- Temporary and permanent dental restorations;
- reducing simple fractures of jaws;
- extractions and disimpactions;
- drainage of dental abscess, suturing to stop bleeding; and
- prescription of analgesics and anti-biotics.
2. Laboratory Technologist
Positions: fourteen (14) Posts
Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution;
- Registration Certificate issued by the Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist Board of Kenya;
- Valid practicing license from the Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist Board of Kenya;
Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:-
- Coordinating provision of laboratory services in a number of units/sections;
- Preparing work plans and programs for laboratory activities;
- Submitting samples to reference laboratories and institutes for further analysis;
- Preparing laboratory manuals and quality specifications;
- Supervising safe laboratory waste disposal;
- Carrying out efficacy tests; Initiating requisition proposals and undertaking technical evaluation for laboratory supplies/equipment; and
- Formulating technical laboratory
3. Enrolled Nurse
Positions: twenty (20) Posts
Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- Certificate in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Enrolled Nurse, Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nurse, Kenya Enrolled Midwife, Kenya Enrolled Psychiatric Nurse or Enroll Nurse/Midwife from a recognized institution;
- Enrolment Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya; and
- Valid practicing license from Nursing Council of
Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail;
- assessing patients and clients and establishing health care needs;
- planning and implementing nursing care interventions based on patients’/clients’ health needs;
- providing providing appropriate healthcare service, including immunization, ante-netal care, delivery, referring patients and clients appropriately;
- evaluating health care outcomes on patients/clients preparing individualized reports;
- making appropriate discharge plan for patients;
- conducting assessment of school health needs;
- planning implementing interventions and preparing periodic reports;
- maintaining records on patients/clients personal and health condition/care;
- ensuring a tidy and safe clinical environment;
- ensuring safe custody for in-patients belongings;
- conducting home visits, following up discharged patients/clients and providing continuity of care; and
- treating minor
4. Pharmaceutical Technologist
Positions: eight (8) Posts
Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized training institution;
- Certificate of Registration as a Pharmaceutical Technologist by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board;
- Valid practicing license from Pharmacy and Poisons
Responsibilities:
- At this level an officer is expected to provide pharmaceutical services under guidance of a senior officer in providing pharmaceutical services in the hospital including compounding and dispensing medicine and record keeping.
5. Registered Nurse
Positions: Nine (9) Posts
Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- a Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/Midwifery or Kenya Registered Nursing/Mental Health and Psychiatry from a recognized institution;
- Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya; and
- Valid practicing license from Nursing Council of Kenya;
Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
- assessing, planning, implementing nursing interventions and evaluating patient’s outcomes;
- providing appropriate healthcare service including Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI), immunization, PMTCT, ante-natal care and delivery, providing health education and counseling to patients/clients and community on identified health needs;
- referring patients and clients appropriately;
- facilitating patients’ admission and initiating discharge plans;
- maintaining records on patients/clients health condition and care;
- ensuring a tidy and safe clinical environment; and
- collecting and compiling
6. Clinical Officer III
Positions: Nine (9) Posts
Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery or Clinical Medicine and Community Health from a recognized institution and
- Certificate of Registration by Clinical Officers’ Council
Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities at this level will include:
- taking history, examining, diagnosing and treating patients’ common ailments at an out-patient or in-patient health facility;
- implementing Community Health Care activities in liaison with other health workers; guiding and counseling patients, clients and staff on health issues;
- sensitizing patients and clients on preventive and promotive health;
- carrying out minor surgical procedures as per training and skill;
- collecting and compiling clinical data; and
- referring patients and clients to appropriate health facilities
7. Radiographer III
Positions: five (5) Posts
Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C (plain) in English/Kiswahili, Biology/ Biological Sciences or Physics/ Physical Sciences and C- (minus) in Mathematics; and
- Diploma in any of the following; Diagnostic Radiography/Medical Imaging Sciences, Ultrasound, Computerized Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy And Digital Medical imaging equipment or its equivalent from a recognized
Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
- Providing radiographic services to patients;
- Processing, verifying and maintaining information relating to patients; and
- Ordering and maintaining records of radiographic and photographic
8. Nutrition Technician
Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –
- Diploma in Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition or Nutrition and Dietetics from a recognized training institution; and
- Registration by the Council of the Institute of Nutritionists and Dieticians (CIND)
Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities at this level will include:
- implementing nutrition programmes; providing nutrition services in health care facilities; conducting nutrition assessments;
- collecting and compiling nutrition data;
- providing nutrition health education and demonstrations;
- counseling of patients with specific nutritional needs;
- monitoring preparation of therapeutic feeds;
- implementing outpatient and inpatient supplementary and therapeutic feeding programmes; promoting maternal, infant and young children feeding programmes; and
- providing micronutrient
9. Information Management Officer
Positions: fifteen (15) Posts
Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- Diploma in Health Records and Information Technology from a recognized institution; and
- Certificate of Registration from Association of Medical Records Officers’ Kenya (AMRO-K).
Responsibilities:
- receiving and documenting patients at hospital reception;
- registering and booking appointment for patients to clinics and consultants;
- storing and retrieving medical records documents;
- preparing clinics;
- updating bed bureau;
- editing of patient case records;
- gathering data from different sources;
- capturing data from service points;
- maintaining record safety and confidentiality;
- storing and retrieving medical records;
- balancing daily bed returns;
- creating and maintaining master index;
- updating patient master index; directing patients to relevant clinics;
- scheduling of patients to the consultants and speciality clinics; and
- assigning codes to diseases and surgical procedures according to the International Classification of Diseases and Procedures
