Student Research Interns at United States International University-Africa

United States International University – Africa is located in the Kasarani area, off Thika Road in the suburb of Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi. The university is an independent, not-for-profit institution serving 6512 students representing 69 nationalities. It offers 24 degree programs from undergraduate to doctoral level, all of which are accredited in Kenya and the United States of America.

Project

The Effectiveness of the Metro Agri-Food Living Lab for Gender Inclusive Youth Entrepreneurship Development in Kenya.

About Game Center

The Global Agribusiness Management and Entrepreneurship (GAME) Centre is a training, extension and research center of the United States International University-Africa housed under the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Extension. Since 2018, the Center has been testing the effectiveness of the Metro Agri-Food Living Lab for Gender Inclusive Youth Entrepreneurship Development in Kenya funded by the International Food Security Centre of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada.

The Internship

The project team now seeks to recruit 20 student research interns from the USIU-Africa student body to work closely with the secretariat and faculty supervisors. The student research interns will help in collection of data during the project, data entry, communications and outreach, literature reviews for publications, website content development and any other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

  • A Doctorate, Masters or Senior Undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Social Sciences, Business, IT or any other relevant field of study
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Registered for Fall 2020 Semester
  • Strong inter-personal skills.
  • Strong interest in gaining research skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Having gone through USIU-Africa research training and/or having membership in the Research Club through the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Extension will be an added advantage. We also encourage those writing their thesis and dissertation on entrepreneurship development to approach researchers at the center for assistance in positioning their papers. The output for the assignment will be weekly and monthly reports, support in developing multimedia case studies and support in development of research projects, thesis, dissertations and scholarly articles.
