As part of an historic and exciting expansion of BBC Africa, the BBCWorld Service is launching arange of programmes and digital content that will go beyondthehard news agenda to cover Health, Technology, Sport, Business discussion programmes and factual content for African audiences.

We are looking for acreative HealthEditor to lead, inspire and manage a newBBCAfrica

Team to produce informative and engaging TV and digital content. You willlaunch a newhealth, wellbeing and lifestyleweekly TV programmeand deliver original digital video contentfor African audiences. You will editorially lead BBC Africa’s health coverage and have the ability to turn complex medical, scientific and health information and data into compelling, easy to understand broadcast material for a variety of African audiences. You will have excellent contacts and a real nose for original creative journalism and broadcast innovation. It’s a multimedia role but substantial experience in long and short form TV programme making is required to push the boundaries of video production. The role will work closely with BBC Editorsproducers and journalists from across Africa, and globally.

It is essential you have excellent command of spoken and written English. Fluency in another African language is desirabl

 

Role Responsibility

• To editorially lead and shape the delivery of health, well-being and lifestyle content for African audiences. To oversee and manage all aspects of production and journalismand lead on majorhealthnews.
• To launch new TV and digitalhealth and lifestylecontent for Africa.
• To bea key point of liaison with other BBC teams on all matters of health in Africa.
• To encourage original journalism and distinctive, innovative contentand share it with the wider BBC
• To work with visual journalism and production teams to develop compellingTV and digitalformats.
• To develop a lively and engaged social media approach tohealth, well-being and lifestylecoverage working very closely with the Languages digital teams.

 

The Ideal Candidate

• Ademonstrable knowledge of health, medical, and lifestyle issues and challenges relevant to African audiences. Excellent contacts within the health and medical field and the ability to explain and deconstruct information for audiences to make health improvements.
• Excellent track record of editorial leadership and delivering high impact, creative,multiplatformvideo and TV contentfor an African audience.
• Experience of leading and managing a team of journalists or content-makers.
• Experience of managing budgets and observing tight financial targets.
• Knowledge of the African media market and the changing needs of the audience.
