Standard Bank Group Job Vacancy : Head of Equities

Our international team provides trading, sales, structuring and risk management solutions for our clients across global financial markets. This includes FX, commodities, equity, credit, fixed income and debt instruments. We also offer market insight, trading services, analytics and new financial products across a number of asset classes.

Job Purpose

This role fulfills the function of providing overall guidance to the equities business, aiming for a dominant position in the local and regional equities market.
He /She will be Head of Equities Execution, sales and research Teams.
The Head of Equities shall be responsible to for the day to day running of the Business and shall;
Implement the policies and corporate strategy developed by the Board
Identify and recommend to the board employment of officers who are competent to manage the operations of the market intermediary
Co-ordinate the operations of the departments
Establish and maintain efficient and adequate internal control systems
Design and implement management information systems necessary to facilitate efficient and effective communication
Regularly appraise the board adequately on the operations of the market intermediary
Ensure that the market intermediary complies with the Act and other relevant laws.
To alert clients to wealth creation opportunities offered by the regional stock exchanges.
To develop, maintain and build strong long-standing relationships with existing and potential clients with a bias towards institutional and high net worth clients.
Ensure a working relationship with the investment banking business through proactive engagement with the ECM team

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

Strategy
Understand the overall strategy of the bank and the company and drive business towards achieving this purpose.
Formulate and implement local institutional, foreign institutional, agency, fixed income, and regional sales strategies to meet corporate goals as well as maintain visibility of our brand.
Develop and nurture strategic relationships with the clients both onshore and offshore clients for strategic business development
Continually recommend improvements and adaptations to existing systems, processes and structures to ensure current and future viability of the sales function
Develop an intimate understanding of the regional stock broking industry and business and utilize this information to add value to our clients
Keep updated with current market trends both local and international, utilize research reports and actively look for information that support our business development efforts
Engage the marketing team to ensure efficient marketing efforts are in place
Constant engagement ECM teams to ensure that all deals in the pipeline are executed as per capital markets regulations.
Utilize the franchise capabilities of the Standard Bank Group to ensure top of class delivery to our clients from a universal financial services perspective
Utilize our data and digital capabilities to ensure delivery of top-notch products and services to our clients and potential clients
Develop customer strategies that fulfill our client-centricity ambitions
Ensure we recruit, train and retain our people to deliver our ambitions
Ensure proactive engagement of and regular interaction with the other Group equity businesses

Execution
Responsible for business development through new client acquisition, building new relationships and increasing depth in existing relationships.
Generate revenue and manage risk with knowledge of customer-based transaction flows, and in anticipation of future changes in the market.
Contribute to building the business reputation in the international and local markets through personally demonstrating a high level of professionalism always, and through developing mutually beneficial working relationships with agents, advisors, counter-parties etc.
Ensure regular updates are provided to the Executive Director
Ensure all trading is undertaken within approved limits
Responsible for the implementation and adoption of all Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering and Sanctions related requirements contained in policies, procedures and processes.
Network with internal customers & external market counterparts, to solicit customers’ feedback, gain market intelligence, benchmark trading techniques, and enhance the Bank’s profile in the market.
Identify potential business opportunities and consistently generate innovative ideas
Ensure that client confidence is supported by solid delivery of expected benefits such as execution of trades, feedback timelines and reliability of required service standards
Build relationships across all hierarchical levels within and outside the company and group to develop a credible and relevant network to ensure leading edge financial and market information

Financial
Budget and target setting process for the sales team and provide relevant and accurate input into this process
Financial budgeting and cost management for the brokerage to ensure a constantly reducing cost-to-income ratio with an ever-improving bottom-line

Regulatory Management and Compliance
Manage regulatory engagements to ensure the business maintains the best relationship with the regulator and complies with all regulatory requirements.
Ensure the brokerage passes the annual CMA and NSE audits

Risk Management
Ensure proactive and timely identification of risk and formulation of appropriate risk mitigating strategies
Identify barriers to business development that emanate from service delivery dissatisfaction and develop strategies to overcome these problems with the relevant members of the team and the client

Leadership
Provide leadership across the business to get the best out of our people.
Build requisite competencies and motivate the team to drive projects through to completion, resulting in consistently high performance and achievement
Set, evaluate and manage performance goals and standards for the brokerage team to achieve high standard of competence, motivation and service orientation

Preferred Qualification and Experience

A Degree holder from a recognized University. A Master’s degree would be more desirable.
Minimum 5 years of experience in Equity sales/ trading.
Registered with ICIFA
Relevant CMA & NSE certifications.

Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise

A good understanding of macroeconomics and current economic trends
An excellent working knowledge of domestic and foreign equity and fixed income markets, and an intermediate understanding of other treasury products
A good appreciation and knowledge of Risk Management, covering Operational Risk, Market Risk, Counterparty Risk and Credit Risk
Sound knowledge of the company’s laid-down policies and procedures.
Sound and technical knowledge of operational systems.
Knowledge of the Regulations in force.
Sound and technical knowledge of trading systems in use in SBGS
