Internal Audit Assistant at Busia Water and Sewerage Services Company Limited (BUWASSCO)

Busia Water and Sanitation Company Limited was incorporated on April 18, 2014 under the companies Act (Cap 486). Its mandate is to supply water and provide sanitation services to the residents of Busia County through a service provision agreement from the Lake Victoria North Water Services Board (LVNWSB). Water and Sanitation Services in Busia were provided by Lake Victoria North Water Services Board (LVNWSB) since 2012 through Kakamega- Busia Water Supply (KBWS). Since water and sanitation provision is a devolved function, both counties resolved to de-cluster from KBWS effective july 1, 2016 with each county forming its own water company.

DEPARTMENT: INTERNAL AUDIT
REPORT TO: INTERNAL AUDITOR

Purpose:

  • To eradicate fraud & errors.
  • To initiate evidence checks & balances.
  • To ensure policies & recommendation as pertaining company’s financial expenditure through audit reports.
  • Assist internal audit to carry out Audit Plans

Duties:

Review internal control systems and make necessary recommendations
Prepare internal audit plans and ensure they are adhered to Systems review;
Plan, organize and complete audits to evaluate the effectiveness of the Company’s internal controls;
Auditing of staff claims i.e. imprest forms, vouchers and annual leaves;
Audit area offices;
Assist with the development of the annual audit plan, including identification and assessment of the company’s key risks;
Develop proper audit programs to address the relevant risks;
Direct and/or perform audit programs as determined necessary;
Monitor and assess management’s progress on past audit results and report related follow-up to Audit Committee reports;
Present audit findings to Internal Audit;
Draft audit reports for distribution to executive management and the Audit Committee; and
Assist with the Company’s compliance to audits, as necessary.

Person Specifications

Academic Qualifications

O Level

Professional Qualifications

  • CPA part 2
  • Report writing skills
  • Proficiency in computer application

EXPERIENCE:

At least 3 years’ work experience in which 1 year he or she must have worked in accounts or other financial related work
