Kenya Commercial Bank Limited is registered as a non-operating holding company which started operations as a licensed banking institution with effect from January 1, 2016. The holding company oversees KCB Kenya – incorporated with effect from January 1, 2016 – and all KCB’s regional units in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia and South Sudan. It also owns KCB Insurance Agency, KCB Capital, KCB Foundation and all associate companies. The holding company was set up to among other things to enhance the Group’s capacity to access unrestricted capital and also enable investment in new ventures outside banking regulations, achieve operational and strategic autonomy for the Group’s operating entities and enhance corporate governance across the Group and oversight in management of subsidiaries.
The Position
Reporting to the Head of Data and Analytics, the Data Engineer will leverage creativity, business intuition, excellent communication, analytics, problem solving skills, and data management skills to manage data sourcing and processing workflows, advanced analytics ETL processes, data profiling solutions and automation of Advance Analytics deployments.
Key Responsibilities
- Together with the Data Scientist, they will partner with business leaders to ensure an in-depth understanding of requirements and the data required to create advanced analytics solutions.
- Should have a good understanding of various data science algorithms and data structures associated with advanced analytics to enable automation of advanced analytics solutions.
- Creates and maintains data pipelines which will involve data sourcing, extraction, transformation, profiling, storage, updating, indexing and maintenance of the advanced analytics data platform.
- Develops and automates metrics, dashboards and reports that consistently monitor and show data governance initiative trends (data quality reports) through the implementation of guidelines, standards and best practices for data management.
- Process raw, structured and unstructured data at scale (including writing scripts, web scraping, calling APIs, writing SQL queries etc.) into a form suitable for analysis then consolidate into a data platform for consumption by advanced analytics initiatives.
- Drive innovation through continuous re-engineering of data and advanced analytics jobs, extensive performance tuning and optimizing the application of data across all advanced analytics layers (acquisition, staging, profiling, cleansing, analysis, modelling, output).
- Works with Business customers to understand business requirements and implement data solutions with business owners through the development of key business questions and datasets that will be used to answer those questions.
- Helps implement data management projects by working with key stakeholders (Technology and Business) and provides expert input, guidance and feedback in such projects.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation/manuals on configurations, setups and deployment of various advanced analytics solutions
Job Requirements
For the above position, the successful applicant should have the following:
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent from an institution recognized by CUE is required.
- Masters’ degree in Data Science, Advanced Analytics or related fields is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in SQL (Oracle PL/SQL, MS T/SQL), Python, C#/Java, Data Modelling, Warehousing and Wrangling Tools, Languages and Techniques is a significant advantage.
- Proficiency in R, No SQL databases, Scala, Big Data technologies (Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Kafka, Pig, Hive, Spark), Elastic Search, Cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon web services.
- Minimum of 3 years proven performance in Business Intelligence/Data Science & Analytics as a Developer or Data Engineer.
- Good understanding of Software development practices, programming languages and various programming tools.
- Experience with relational data modeling and databases, data management, data processing and working knowledge of ETL tools.
- Broad understanding of the latest Data Science, Analytics and Technology trends and their impact on business strategies and operations
- Be an authority in collecting, organizing, analyzing and storing large datasets from various sources (Relational Databases, text and PDF files, websites etc.) with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to multi-task, respond well to pressure and deadlines, influence others, work well individually and in a team environment.
- Possesses personal drive, integrity, creativeness and strong problem-solving skills
- Flexible and capable of handling multiple tasks in a fast paced, high volume environment
- Have an inquisitive nature with an aptitude to diagnose and tackle analytically complex business problems.
