The Aga Khan University is a private, autonomous university that promotes human welfare through research, teaching and community service initiatives. Applications are, invited from appropriately qualified candidates for the above position based in any one of the AKU campuses in East Africa. The position holder will report to the Associate Vice Provost & University Librarian, AKU and will be responsible for developing an academic writing service and supporting faculty and students gain scientific writing skills. In addition, the position holder will develop academic writing mentoring programs and develop an appropriate range of scholarly writing resources.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive editorial support service to the AKU academic community in East Africa
- Provide personalized consultation and guidance on manuscript submissions/ resubmissions
- Develop and facilitate academic writing workshops
- Maintain cooperation with local, regional and international academic writing centres
- Develop academic writing mentoring program, networking programs, and develop scholarly writing resources
- Develop systems that improve academic writing in AKU
- Provide guidance in academic integrity and research ethics in scholarly publishing
Requirements
- A Master’s degree in Communication, Media & Publishing, Library Science or equivalent
- 5 years’ experience as an academic writing editor or a Librarian in an academic environment
- Familiarity with the process of setting up and managing an academic writing centre
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent editorial skills
- Good knowledge of Information and Communication Technologies
- Knowledge of editorial management systems
