Research Scientist at Kenya Medical Research – KEMRI

Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Reports to: Principal Investigator
Duration: 6 months
Research Scientist – KMR 6 (Short Contract)

Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the implementation of project activities
  2. Assist with project field surveys and carrying out laboratory assays
  3. Support the maintenance of basic analytical equipment such as HPLC, UV/Vis Spectrophotometer
  4. Prepare and afford monthly research project draft progress reports
  5. Be available for meetings to discuss with the Principal Investigator the project progress of the analysis;
  6. Assist with development of data capture tool, data entry and data analysis of project results
  7. Provide support in manuscript writing
  8. Contribute to drafting of the final report on the key findings from the study

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent from a recognized University,
  2. Must be familiarity with basic analytical chemistry equipment,
  3. Must be conversant with Pharmaceutical Drug analysis.
  4. Proficiency in computer application
  5. Basic knowledge in statistics will be an added advantage

Terms of Engagement:

Appointment will be for a period of Six (6) months and the salary is negotiable.

  1. The project WILL NOT offer employment after the completion of the contract.
  2. Successful person will be expected to take up a personal accident cover and medical Insurance cover; and
