Lands Secretary Job Qualifications

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • served for a minimum period of three (3) years in the grade of either Director, Physical Planning, Land Surveys, Land Adjudication & Settlement or Senior Deputy Commissioner of
  • Lands or Senior Deputy Chief Land Registrar, Job Group ‘S’ or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service;
  • a degree in any of the following disciplines: Urban Management, Urban/regional Planning, Valuation and Property Management, Land Surveying, Land Economics, Economics, Sociology, Environmental Studies, Community Development or any other relevant qualification from a university recognized in Kenya;
  • attended Strategic Leadership Development programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks in a recognized institution;
  • competence in work performance necessary for the effective management of the functions of the directorate; and
  • ability to articulate, interpret and implement National and International policies and development goals.
  • A Masters degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities for the Lands Secretary Job

The Secretary, Lands will be responsible to the Principal Secretary for organization, coordination and management of all technical activities in Lands Directorate. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • acting as a link between the Principal Secretary and the technical departments in the Directorate;
  • coordinating the preparation, updating and reviewing of the legislations in the respective departments;
  • ensuring effective work performance and proper utilization of capital and human resources in the directorate; and
  • overall management and administration of the Directorate and coordinating the preparation and implementation of the directorates work plans and budgets.
