Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Communition Specialist, the Communications Associate supports the implementation of the corporate communications strategy, as well as the design, management, and implementation of the Country Office communications and publication strategies, with a focus on influencing the development agenda, promoting public and media outreach, and mobilizing political and financial support for UNDP.
The Communications Associate maintains a working relationship with Programme Teams in the Country Office and works with the Partnership, Communications and Resources Management team (PMSU) to ensure that communication efforts contribute to strengthening UNDP’s partnerships, resource mobilization efforts and enhancing the country office’s public standing as a knowledge organisation and a development partner of choice. The Communications Associate also works in close collaboration with the Operations teams, Communication Officers of other UN Agencies, including the UN Communications Group, contributing to the successful implementation of the Partnership Communication Strategy and Action Plan.
The incumbent is expected to display initiative, a positive approach and a strong client orientation. As such, s/he might be required to undertake other emerging tasks and additional duties as required by the direct supervisor or senior management.
Duties and Responsibilities

Support to formulation and implementation of communications and advocacy strategies, support to business development
Support to implementation of the CO publications policy
Maintenance of websites, databases and knowledge management systems
Supports building and resource mobilization efforts
Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing
1. Supports the formulation and implementation of CO communications and advocacy strategies, supports business development focusing on achievement of the following results:
Provision of inputs and information for elaboration of CO communication strategy based on the corporate communications strategy
Support to increased awareness of UNDP’s mandate and goals through dissemination of information, organization of public events
In coordination with supervisor development and preparation of materials for marketing and awareness-raising including briefing materials and press releases.
Organization of publicity, advocacy, knowledge-sharing events and promotional opportunities. Provision of logistics support to the events.
Review of reference materials, identification of reference materials for retention. Maintenance of information database and photo library.
Research and retrieval of data from internal and external sources;
Organization and implementation of joint UN information campaigns (UN Day, World AIDS Day, etc).
2. Ensures implementation of the CO publications policy focusing on the achievement of the following results:
Suggestions, inputs, content development, coordination of production and dissemination of press releases, publications, articles and sharing of CO knowledge and successes.
3. Ensures maintenance of web sites, data bases and knowledge management systems focusing on achievement of the following results:
Updated and high-quality CO web sites in line with corporate branding requirements;
Preparation of the content for the web sites ensuring consistency of the materials;
Maintenance of other web sites and databases as assigned.
4. Supports partnership building and resource mobilization efforts identification and sharing of innovative ideas focusing on achievement of the following results:
Successful partnership building efforts with private sector, development partners, philanthropy, academia and other key stakeholders in the country;
Development of creative activities and innovative products for sharing with development partners, etc and amplifying UNDP’s innovation agenda;
Effective coordination resource mobilization initiatives
5. Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and management focusing on achievement of the following results:
Identification and synthesis of best practices and lessons learned directly linked to country programme, projects goals and activities.
Support country office efforts towards effective engagements through knowledge networks and communities of practice.
Provision of trainings and clinics for UNDP staff on internal and external communications for development, with a focus on photography, video, blogging, vlogging, managing social media, working with press, etc.
Professional growth through active learning.
