Manager, Infrastructure Development at Geothermal Development Company

The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) is fully government-owned company in Kenya’s energy sector. GDC was formed in 2008 as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to accelerate the development of geothermal resources in Kenya. GDC is tasked with developing steam fields and selling geothermal steam for electricity generation to KenGen and to private investors. Geothermal steam is an environmentally friendly and abundant raw material used for generating electricity. The government and several development partners have been financing risks associated with geothermal exploration and drilling. Mission. Overall Purpose:-

Reporting to the General Manager, Drilling and Infrastructure: The jobholder will be responsible for designing, planning and development of infrastructure projects to support drilling operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing technical advice on infrastructural development of geothermal fields;
  • Ensuring project infrastructural planning and execution;
  • Managing all construction equipment owned and operated by GDC;
  • Development of projects infrastructure systems to support drilling of geothermal wells;
  • Planning, designing and developing infrastructure (Roads, well pads, power supply systems, water systems, project facilities);
  • Ensuring implementation of infrastructural on the job safety programs; and
  • Ensuring compliance to safety and quality management systems.

Job Specifications

  • Have not less than eleven (11) years relevant work experience two (2) years should be in Managerial role;
  • Be a holder of a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Mechatronics, Electrical, Chemical, Agricultural, Bio Systems, Mining Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Be a holder of a Professional qualification and Registered Professional by Engineers Board of Kenya or Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board in good standing ;
  • Have a valid Annual Practicing License from the Engineers Board of Kenya or Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board;
  • Possess a Certificate in Project management skills from a recognized Institution;
  • Undertaken a leadership course from a recognized institution;
  • Proficiency in computer applications;
  • Demonstrate merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results; and

Terms of service

The appointment will be for a contractual period of five (5) years renewable subject to satisfactory performance and delivery of set performance targets and outcomes. GDC offers competitive salary and benefits commensurate with the standards of excellence that it expects.
