Bookkeeper at African Canadian Continuing Education Society

The African Canadian Continuing Education Society (ACCES) is a registered nongovernmental organization that has provided scholarships to thousands of underprivileged Post Secondary students in Kenya since 1993.

ACCES is looking for a part time bookkeeper to perform a variety of bookkeeping and accounting duties including processing payroll, financial record keeping and processing day to day transactions. The bookkeeper works under the day-to-day supervision of the Program Manager and reports to the Executive Director (Canada). Our office is located in Kakamega, Kenya.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Managing all aspects of day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting processes
  2. Preparing reports
  3. Managing time tracking process for employees
  4. Coordinating with outside auditors in preparation of the year-end audit
  5. Supporting the Program Manager in development and analysis of the annual budget
  6. Maintaining accounting procedures and policies, and systems of internal controls to ensure the integrity of all financial systems
  7. Performing non-routine tasks requiring strong judgement and initiative

Qualifications

  1. Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and database management
  2. Very good command of spoken and written English and Kiswahili
  3. Accounting degree, certification, or equivalent with 3-5 years related experience or a combination of education and experience
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  5. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  6. Ability to manage priorities and workflow
  7. Ability to work as part of a team
  8. Understanding of and commitment to the ACCES mission
