The African Canadian Continuing Education Society (ACCES) is a registered nongovernmental organization that has provided scholarships to thousands of underprivileged Post Secondary students in Kenya since 1993.
ACCES is looking for a part time bookkeeper to perform a variety of bookkeeping and accounting duties including processing payroll, financial record keeping and processing day to day transactions. The bookkeeper works under the day-to-day supervision of the Program Manager and reports to the Executive Director (Canada). Our office is located in Kakamega, Kenya.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing all aspects of day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting processes
- Preparing reports
- Managing time tracking process for employees
- Coordinating with outside auditors in preparation of the year-end audit
- Supporting the Program Manager in development and analysis of the annual budget
- Maintaining accounting procedures and policies, and systems of internal controls to ensure the integrity of all financial systems
- Performing non-routine tasks requiring strong judgement and initiative
Qualifications
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and database management
- Very good command of spoken and written English and Kiswahili
- Accounting degree, certification, or equivalent with 3-5 years related experience or a combination of education and experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Understanding of and commitment to the ACCES mission
