Scope and Objectives:
Kaizen is seeking one international long-term expert to lead and steer the forthcoming Water and Energy for Food (WE4F) East Africa Regional project, as well as function as the main focal point for the WE4F program in East Africa. The long-term expert will take on the role as the lead Business Development Technical Advisor (BDTA). The Lead BDTA should oversee all tasks and deliverables.
The overall objective (impact) of the WE4F programme is to increase food production and income of smallholder farmers through and a more sustainable use of water and energy in food production. The WE4F program expects the following outputs to be achieved through the request services in the present assignment:
- Business capacities of innovators (SMEs) that offer innovative solutions (technological, digital, financial, etc. new to a context) for up-scaling climate friendly, energy and/or water efficient innovations are improved through financial and technical assistance,
- Access to appropriate financing options for climate friendly, energy and/or water efficient innovations is improved and new, suitable financing mechanisms for end user of innovations are identified.
Tasks:
- Demonstrate high level of knowledge of and experience in business development (10 years) and in the context of energy, water and food (3 years)
- Understand and develop a comprehensive understanding of the variety of international and national partners in the operating environment
- Build relationships and communicate effectively – including making technical presentation – with various actors in East Africa to maintain effective relationships across different cultures and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills by (pro)actively analyzing and anticipating challenges and suggesting a way-forward to tackle issues at hand effectively
- Develop realistic and appropriate action plans across a range of subjects that can enable private businesses to make progress on innovations design, capacity building, and business model development
- Demonstrate and integrate financial knowledge and skills to assess detailed concepts/plans, Excel, etc, in the business model analysis and planning processes
- Manage the relationship with GIZ regional hub team as well as partner relationship managers.
Qualifications:
- General qualification : Master’s degree in business management, economics, engineering, agronomics or social sciences related to technology advances in energy, water and agriculture.
- Language: English C1 Proficiency
- Specific qualification: At least 10 years of experience in introducing innovations through innovation calls, especially for energy or water efficiency into agriculture (at least 3 years’ experience)
- At least 10 years of Leadership/Management experience with a team size of 5 or more staff
- At least 5 years of professional experience of projects in the East Africa region
- At least 5 years of experience in managing and monitoring development cooperation projects
