The Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) is a state corporation established in 1986 and mandated to undertake research in forestry and allied natural resources. The institute conducts research and development activities under five thematic areas namely: Forest productivity and Improvement; Biodiversity and Environment Management; Forest Products Development; Social-economics, Policy and Governance and Technical Support Services. Mandate * Conduct research in forestry and allied natural resources; * Disseminate research findings; and * Establish partnerships and cooperate with other research organizations and institutions of higher learning in joint research and training. Strategic Objectives * To enhance: Vision 2030 delivery; customer/stakeholder satisfaction and retention; linkage and partnership with stakeholders; and livelihoods. * To increase forest technologies and innovations; enhance multi-sectoral and public-private sector research; enhance knowledge management and dissemination systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Preparing technical specifications for software development
- Analyzing, designing, developing and maintaining software solutions and applications to address user requirements and their documentation;
- Providing advice on development and implementation of ICT software as and when necessary;
- Ensuring developed systems adhere to ICT standards;
- Evaluating and recommending the suitability of Information and Communication Technology systems and applications;
- Reviewing and evaluating feasibility studies on the development and enhancement of existing software (current Forestry Research systems);
- Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual software and application reports;
- Writing technical procedures and documentation for developed systems and applications including operations and user guide;
- Investigating and resolving application functionality related issues and provide first level support and troubleshooting of various systems;
- Web design, updates and debugging; and
- Any other duty as assigned from time to time.
Requirements for Appointment
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) of at least mean grade “C +” (C plus) or its equivalent qualification;
- Bachelor‟s Degree in BBIT/Computer Science/software engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution;
- At least six (6) years of relevant work experience in comparable institution;
- Valid Membership to a relevant professional body (e.g. CSK, ISACA) in good standing;
- Proper and practical understanding of the SDLC process;
- Certification in one or more development language (C, C#, PHP, HTML, Java, PHP, Android programming etc.);
- Knowledge in relational databases such as MySQL and Oracle;
- Good communication skills; and
- Fulfil the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution.
