Monitoring & Evaluation Lead at African Christian Health Association Platform

The African Christian Health Association Platform (ACHAP) is an advocacy and networking platform for Christian Health Associations (CHAs) and Church Health Networks from Sub-Saharan Africa established through a declaration of commitment by the 3rd Africa Christian Health Associations Biennial Conference held in Bagamoyo, Tanzania in January 2007. ACHAP brings together 43 national-level faith-based networks providing services in more than 30 countries across sub-Saharan Africa to share resources, establish technical working groups, and provide ongoing training and technical assistance.

Position Description:

ACHAP is seeking a Monitoring & evaluation lead for a community health project in Kenya & Uganda whose focus is addressing key drivers of child and maternal morbidity and mortality. The project aims at increasing availability and utilization of high quality and high impact community interventions in maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH); family planning; nutrition as well as water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).
The M&E Specialist will lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation plan. This will include developing appropriate indicators, implementing systems to safeguard the collection and management of program data, and recommending changes to data collection techniques and reporting, as needed. The M&E Specialist will train project staff and liaise with ACHAP leadership, Ministries of Health and donors on M&E reporting requirements. This is a full-time position based in Nairobi.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design the project’s M&E system and related tools, clearly identifying the users and the utility of the data/information.
  • Lead the development of ACHAP project Activity Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (AMEL) plan. This will include defining M&E indicators and adaptation of M&E tools to meet the project needs.
  • Manage and safeguard project data collection, train project staff, and supervise M&E activities of staff.
  • Oversee data collection processes, perform data quality assessments, and inform survey methods and design.
  • Analyze all data collected and advise project management on needed program revisions.
  • Contribute to written performance reports to the donor, and other project deliverables.
  • Work with project partners and Ministry of Health teams to ensure accurate information flow including data collection, measurement, and reporting.

Key Competencies:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Health Records and information, Medical statistics, Epidemiology/public Health, social science, management, international development, monitoring and evaluation, or a related field preferred. Advanced degree will be an added advantage.
  • At least 8 years of related work experience, with experience managing and implementing monitoring and evaluation and learning systems for donor-funded health programs.
  • Considerable knowledge of principles, techniques and methodologies used in the monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects including quantitative, qualitative and participatory approaches and socio-economic research.
  • Considerable knowledge of Logic Models/Results Chains and results-based planning.
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices.
  • Experience coordinating with ministries of health and local communities, in the design and implementation of data collection techniques.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
