Therapy Radiographer at Kenyatta National Hospital

KNH has turned 115 years and it had its Centenary Celebration in 2001. The Hospital was built to fulfill the role of being a National Referral and Teaching Hospital, as well as to provide medical research environment. Established in 1901 with a bed capacity of 40, KNH became a State Corporation in 1987 with a Board of Management and is at the apex of the referral system in the Health Sector in Kenya. It covers an area of 45.7 hectares and within the KNH complex are College of Health Sciences (University of Nairobi); the Kenya Medical Training College; Kenya Medical Research Institute and National Laboratory Service (Ministry of Health). KNH has 50 wards, 22out-patient clinics, 24 theaters (16 specialized) and Accident & Emergency Department. Out of the total bed capacity of 1800, 209 beds are for the Private Wing. Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi is the oldest hospital in Kenya. Founded in 1901 with a bed capacity of 40 as the Native Civil hospital, it was renamed the King George VI in 1952.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Therapy Radiography or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  2. Certificate of registration from a relevant professional body.
  3. Proficiency in computer applications.
  4. Complied the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, (2010)

Responsibilities

  1. Receiving and identifying patients for Radiotherapy planning and therapeutic procedures:
  2. Ensure good customer service by verifying and maintaining information related to patients in addition to resolution of customer complaints, caring and counselling patients and their guardians before, during and after Radiotherapy procedures;
  3. Performing conventional and Ct simulation techniques in Radiotherapy;
  4. Performing Radiotherapy treatment procedures in addition to verification imaging prior to and during Radiotherapy treatment;
  5. Performing 3D Radiotherapy treatment plans;
  6. Consulting with the Radiation Oncologist on sustainability of the treatment plans delivered before approval;
  7. Performing mould and fabrication techniques;
  8. Performing imaging for Brachytherapy procedures and assist the Radiation Oncologist during Brachytherapy application;.
  9. Implementing daily and weekly quality assurance programs in the department in relation to Radiotherapy equipment and their accessories, in addition to recording of incident reports and machine error logs of all Radiotherapy equipments;
  10. Maintaining records of Radiotherapy accessories and requisition of needed Radiotherapy commodities for daily operations;
  11. Participating in clinical research, teaching, health planning and policy
  12. Participating in continuous professional education and Development activities within the department, in addition to assisting in training, evaluation and supervision of students.
