The National Police Service Commission of Kenya is an Independent government Commission established under the Constitution of Kenya to ensure smooth functioning of the National Police Service of Kenya.

Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy / Policy Responsibilities
- Formulation of the directorate’s Strategic Plans and objectives
- Developing proposals for reforms on emerging legal Policies and issues;
- Developing strategies for stakeholder consultations and engagement;
- Formulating legal strategies, policies and procedures to ensure that they are in accordance with the existing legislation;
- monitoring compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements;
- Liaise with government authorities and key stakeholders on relevant policy issues and identify areas of co- operation to maintain cordial working relations with the stakeholders.
- Oversee the development of policy analysis standards and procedures in accordance with relevant government regulations to ensure achievement of set standards.
Managerial Responsibility
- Reviewing legal and Policy documents, opinions and briefs and spearheads law reviews;
- Ensuring compliance with principles of good governance, human rights, transparency, accountability, ethics and integrity and advising the Commission on legal policy issues;
- Coordinating work plans for the department;
- Oversee the implementation performance appraisal systems of the department
- coordinating service providers in legal matters involving the Commission;
- Ensuring safe custody of the records of the Board and the preservation of original documents;
- Brief the Deputy Chief Executive Officer-Technical Services on outcome of Court cases and compliance thereof.
Requirements for appointment
- Master’s Degree in any of the following disciplines; Law, Business Administration, Public Administration, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
- Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Council of Legal Education.
- Comply with the Chapter six of the Kenyan Constitution.
- Admitted as an advocate of the High Court Kenya;
- Certificate in Strategic Leadership Management Course lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution;
- Certified Public Secretary (K) or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- Be a member of a relevant Professional body:
- Thirteen (13) years of service, of which five(5)must be of similar experience in a comparable position from a reputable organization; and
- Meet the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya
